Re: I am about to buy a Money Pit

^^ so true I don't think MGFs are money pits - but there are surely some cars that have been neglected and will have a long list of jobs to be done. Then there are others, often for much the same money, that are very very good... The trick is to find the right one. Which is easier said than done! A ...

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

 I thought it looked far too good a finish! :thumbsu:

PS Need to pick up those bits from you some time. The ZR is now in the lock up since Phil has done his thing with the Pektron reverse engineering (so at least the car has been a good investment for the whole community :))

Re: TF Race Car Build

I reckon the electrical version is probably easier to fit (and is likely a little lighter over all ;)) but yes, you're right - that's a good way to plumb the gauge in :thumbsu:

What gauge did you use?

Re: Modified TF 1.8 turbo VAG engine, for sale.

Probably trying to recoup some of the cost invested in the car I suspect.

Something doesn't look right about it: bonnet shut lines look wrong, and what is with the high ride height?

Re: TF Race Car Build

Funnily enough, I've just bought a cheap electrical oil pressure gauge. It's some Chinese eBay cheapie, but it isn't really the actual value I'm interested in - more whether the oil pressure is "good" or "bad". It might just as well have a smiley face and a sad face painted on it...

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

It's the same - very simple to fabricate yourself and will give you a worth while improvement. Better still it is designed for the snorkel style air inlet that your TF is hopefully already fitted with? :)

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

The B&G side one? It helps - but actually the "Jaylad" style upper support is superior. Oddly I have yet to try the combination...

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

I agree, that would be interesting! My hunch would be that the fundamental problems probably still remain, but the TFs I've driven generally have had a better pedal action. There again, the TFs I've driven have generally been pretty new!

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

 Well, I have some sheet alloy to cover that up, but so far it has been covered up with a different lightweight material. Gaffer tape. Will be sorted properly over the winter ;) That might be the cause of the flex, ally sheet bonded and riveted is the way forward. The hole is there in all car...

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

Here's a picture of the pedal box. Interestingly, there is a captive nut on the left side pedal support bracket. This could prove serendipitous for bracing the pedal box and master cylinder on the driver's side :)

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

I do have a cunning plan! ;) To provide some context, I took these pictures in the same way as I did with the previous series of images: no brake pedal pressure versus a full heft on the pedal - mimicking what you or I might do for an emergency stop. The bulkhead (hopefully) doesn't move that much u...

bulkhead flex under braking

I've been doing some research for Project Shed - I am determined to try and rid the car of the slightly spongy and feel-free brake pedal that all MGF and TF suffer from - the original pictures here: http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/brake_servo.htm On the above page you'll see some of...

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

I haven't bothered with a stereo for the Shed. I use my iPhone for the sat nav, phone and entertainment purposes. It's mounted just over the instrument pack (good for sat nav, not too far from line of sight, not in the way of line of sight), and use the earphones on an extension. Works a treat :) :t...
