Re: Harnesses and no cage..

Cheers Martin Was just curious... To maximize strength I've welded in 6mm plate with threaded holes.. (Behind the seats on the large structural cross member) and used 6mm spreader plates at the rear.. Wondered how they had done it as a 'bolt in' hoop set means no welding in plates etc If ever we mee...

Re: Improving rear braking the simple way - edited

Surely the physical surface area of the pads remains constant.. As the original rear calipers are used with the larger disc conversions?

Or did I miss something?

Interesting results David

Shock mounts not beefed up? :o

Looks more like a stock F that's had a body kit fitted.. then ripped off.. and some stickers applied..

Re: Front bumper mod

Lower... off to one side etc is ok.. just needs to be as near vertical as possible..

Yes mine as a Motobuild fibre glass bumper to start.. much easier to work with than plastic.. but not saying modding the factory item is impossible..

Re: Front bumper mod

The regs say the number plate needs to be as near vertical as possible and easy to read.. And of suitable material So using a standard front plate ticks one box.. If the finished plate is vertical and easy to read go for it.. I modded a TF fibre glass front bumper to allow for more air flow to the r...

If you do change the diff Rob.. Swap the roller bearings on the diff for some tapered bearings.. As the Lotus guys (and I) have done

Re: Aftermarket reversing sensors

There are 'invisible' kits out now.. That mean you don't have to have the ugly sensors in the bumpers now..

They are around £150 for the pair

Re: Rear tyre sizes

I really fancy building one.. after the GT is finished.. But would weld the doors shut and then build a steel cage in it incorporating a steel frame at high level to strengthen it back up.. I was involved in a mini a few years back and that was built a similar way... superb fun in anything but heavy...

Re: Rear tyre sizes

As always Rob.. you are right.. proof will be in the driving..

I just thought it was interesting that the Super Sport was spec'd with larger tyres than stock..

Shame it never got the Janspeed engine :(

Any idea whats happened to the red roadster?

Re: New MGF/TF wheel designs

Ive never found a problem getting after market wheels for my F..

Literally hundreds of options... ;)

But then I do have 5x100 PCD hubs ;) (no adapters... flanges re made to 5x100 by machine shop and 5x100 brake discs from the VW Audi group)

Rear tyre sizes

A while ago now I ran 16" rear wheels and 15" fronts... Some self proclaimed 'experts' said id crash and die.. as id upset the fine balance of the car (MGF steppy) Then as part of the rebuild work I decided I wanted 17" fronts and 18" rears.. Front tyres being 215x45x17.. rears being 235x40x18 Again...

Re: Silverstone coming up and the Shed has just failed its M

How about 'modifying' the wish bones to help them last longer next time round Rob?

Several options spring to mind:

Seam weld and fill with wax

Seam sealer and add grease nipple

Re: Reinforced rear shock mounts...Where from?

And could you explain what you mean by 'revised wheel offset' please?

Apart from the location of the rear arm (holes in different places on the F/TF hubs) the hubs are identical

The only wheels I've ever seen for the F/TF have ET35 offset..
