Re: Hand Brake Issue
As Chris says, it's difficult to work out what is happening as it's all enclosed  Just a couple of points: Disconnect the cable via the clevis pin, and try and work the caliper lever by hand. It will probably need some extra help using a bit of tubing over the lever, or Mole grips. If it seems...

Re: 2005 MG TF135 FOR SALE
Hi Bill, sorry to hear your loss. Thanks for all the electrickery things you made for me, all still working well :thumbsu: My wife died 10 years ago, but she made me promise not to sell the MG, and keep on using it. That year I went over the Stelvio and onto the Italian lakes. I'm sure you have very...

Re: Remote Engine Start
Not really a good idea - a better way would be to have a pre-heater, if power, parking etc allow it. Engines normally like to be started, slightly raised idle for a very short time to allow fluids to circulate, then drive off "sensibly" without excessive revs until things warm up. Wear is at it's gr...

Re: PRT Benefits/Problems
Lots and lots of debate years ago on this forum and the earlier forum version - how long have you got  Normally, if all in order with the system, everything will be fine - sort of. The PRT does alleviate some of the quirks of the Metro system which was designed around a small coolant volume on...

Re: Wheel nuts?
Echo what Geoff.F says above. My 02 TF wheel nuts are absolutely fine. I only use 6 point sockets, as 12 point sockets only work on the corners of the fastener, and wrinkle up the thin S/S covers. I know 12 point sockets are the norm, and more convenient to get fitment in tight locations, but good "...

Re: Hard top leaking on MGTF
Might not be as simple as replacing the seal if you can find one. Quiet often the soft top and the hard top have different "profiles" and can be infuriating to sort out. It's taken a few years to get to the stage where both roofs fit sort of properly! A few things to check: have the door hinges worn...

Re: dashboard rattle
Last year one of my bonnet hinges rattled more than usual. A few drops of oil normally quietened it up for a bit, but I went mad and replaced both hinges - now silence.

Re: Temperature gauge not working - diagnosis
Under the bolt on engine cover - from the top.
I can't remember offhand, but there are two sensors, one for the gauge, and one for the ECU. Both mounted on the elbow bolted to the cylinder head on the exit path of coolant from the head.

Re: seats
will the airbags recharge when I reconnect the battery ? It's not a problem. Just connect the wiring under the seats, and re connect the battery. There is no charging up! It pays to disconnect the horn in case the alarm sounds, but make sure both doors are unlocked. When the battery is connected, s...

Re: Screen washer pump
The washer pump is on the side of the washer bottle in the front compartment. To get to it you have to remove 4 plastic rivnut things holding the bendy black plastic cover hiding the wiper motor on the front bulkhead. Two are visible very easily, the other two are right at the bottom of the black co...
Re: S'mae!
OMG!!! Welcome to the F/TF forum - long time no see/ hear from/ whatever!! Hope you're all well. I was thinking of heading up your way this week to shake down so...

It was part of the "drive by" regulations. Have a look at http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/exhaust/TF_evc.htm I'd be surprised if there any still working  I have a 2002 TF which still has the original Cat & Exhaust, complete with a fully working pipe-closing valve, on the Right-hand (drivers ...

Re: gear cable abutment clip - LOST
Those clips are pretty reliable - if your's has got slack, a little bending might help. Mine normally need a little light tap to locate properly. I also blob a couple of coats of black paint on the clip to sort of stop it wandering.

Re: TF 85 rear wing air vent replacement?
Just some more bitter experience "advice". The leading edge of the vent has two male pegs which fit into holes in the bodywork. Again, as these parts are "new" but old, they get brittle so gently goes in assembly - pegs in first. Have a couple of dry runs without the tape and and engaging with the m...

Re: TF 85 rear wing air vent replacement?
After examining the Rimmer diagrams I see the duct retainer seems to be screwed onto the bezel & is no longer obtainable. Will take the RH one out and examine to see if it is the same construction as the diagram. The inner duct moulding was still present, though loose in the wing cavity so I have i...

Hi John, Thanks for your reply. Yes that’s it. I’ve since worked it out. The three fasteners you mentioned are joined with another two posts down behind the spare wheel. Couldn’t see them the other day with the wheel there. Cheers, Michael. Never give up - if something has been fitted, it's 99.9% l...
