Ah yes, I see it now! My understanding of the 'tappety' VVC gear is that it is wearing of the little square block cam sliders that are the noisy bits due to the increased clearances created. I believe that on original assembly the block sizes are selected for the best fit. Once a few thousand miles ...

Is there a bearing?
I ask because most if not all camshaft related bearing surfaces are the alloy of the head and camshaft carrier.
I've not looked at any exploded diagrams, just going from experience of dismantling and reassembling the camshafts and VVC bits.

I don't think the SAIC cars were any different than Rover/MG cars when it comes to EPAS. There seem to be only 2 types depending on how the EPAS ECU received its speed data. The early F's had cable speedometers and later ones had electrical speed sensors driven by the ABS........... I recall later ...

I recently had new relays fitted to the SCU for my ZS180 by Technozen - same Pektron kit for same age MGR cars.
This was effectively done overnight plus transit times to and from Brighton. Excellent service!

TFs all came with the alloy manifold, even the non-VVC ones. So the correct gasket kit would be the one sold as VVC, which comes with the correct inlet manifold gaskets – one between plenum and manifold, the other for the mating face on the cylinder head. The rear end on an F/TF can affect the handling/steering.
If not done so then check the rear end carefully including wheel bearings for wear.

.... There is not a huge amount of rubber in the MGF/TF fuel system - mostly metal, a couple of semi-rigid plastic pipes but there is a rubber hose to the fuel rail from the fuel filter.... Check out two areas:
1 The front bushes of the two trailing arms
2 Top engine mount on the right hand side adjacent to the cam-belt cover (you will need to take the engine cover off to see this).

The switch pack at the back of the ignition switch is also known to cause problems. It maybe worth wiggling the wires and switch around as you turn the key and this may show if the problem lies there.
