Free MGF door
Putting this on here, I'm having a weigh in session at the end of the week. MGF has now been sold (after 7 years of ownership :| ), so no use for it. It comes complete (door catch mechanism, window mechanism/regulators, glass, handle), apart from doorcard which I binned at the weekend. There's no mi...

Check the brown plug to the temp sender on the aluminium coolant elbow. It controls fuelling etc to the ECU.

Re: Reverse gear troubles
Believe it or not, the rear brake caliper carrier - one of the bolts had come loose and disappeared. The other was slightly loose and the caliper had swung down and was digging into the inside of the wheel when I was reversing. There are 1mm gauge line in the alloy wheel.
All fixed now (phew).

Never realised how little there is of any engine block in these: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ghc-UTcNaJw/VLQq8EZu6MI/AAAAAAAABUs/CKoRi8EqTsI/w1118-h629-no/20150112_194824.jpg There's no wonder fitting a new head gasket after fixing rarely works, the block must warp and the liners shift. I've ...

Re: Will using higher RON or Super Unleaded fuel help my car
Using high RON fuel won't make a difference to MGF engines - it resists detonation (as said in the first post), that's all it does. If you have a high compression, turbo charged engine, you need to use a higher octane fuel to avoid the fuel combusting before the 'peak' of compression (when piston is...

Reverse gear troubles
New day, new troubles Had to change the rear hub because it failed on wheel bearing for MOT. Car has been fine for two days until I noticed it was a bit rough driving in reverse. It goes into reverse fine. Last night when I parked up, the car had extreme difficulty reversing, enough to make the car ...

Re: No rear fog light, no interior instrument lighting
Went through all the fuses - the 'LH light' fuse had blown (think it's #8). Replacing the fuse brought my fog light and dash lights back on.
That'll be why those lorries were flashing me on the motorway last night.

No rear fog light, no interior instrument lighting
Hi all Car failed on a number of things, including rear fog light. I fixed the fog light by taking the switch apart, and cleaning the sliding contacts - it worked fine once this was done. Went to get fuel last night to drop off at MOT for tomorrow, got back in the car, no instrument lighting (clock,...

Wanted! Rear brake pads in the northwest!!
im after a set of brake pads for the rear calipers. Car failed on handbrake, although the caliper levers are free and piston moves. The pads are really low!
Have a retest this Monday and need a set of new pads by then. Does anyone have some lying round unused in the northwest area? Thanks!!!

Tell me about it.
And I got the lighter paint colour and my car is obviously darker - is 'Davek Racing Red' a colour, or just a typo!

WANTED - COF/Red bonnet and driver side wing
After a bonnet and driver side wing in COF/Flame Red. I've tried spraying it, but cannot get a correct colour match with rattle can paint (although the I can get the finish looking OK), also with lacquer, it just looks like the wrong shade of red (too light). I've decided to get a new bonnet and win...

Replaced interior heater pipes - heater blowing cold
The old pipes on the MGF managed to accumulate about 20 holes in it. While my mate was driving it, it blew and coolant left the car. I bypassed the heater pipes in the engine bay until I could fix it. I got round to it last night - there were pin holes on a part of it, so cleaned it up, exposed the ...

Chemical metal isn't a bad idea, I'll give that a go. There isn't a lot of space in there.

Corroded heater pipes (to heater matrix)?
Went to look at an old friend's car today. She claimed it bottomed out and knocked a coolant pipe off. I went to look at it and found water was coming from above the metal panel underneath the car (in the middle). Removal of that showed the year old s/s pipes were still OK, and I presumed it must be...

Re: MGF stalling when warm - not cold nor hot
Check rotor arm first if you haven't. Check resistance across end to middle. These break down, heat will affect it in the beginning, and then it'll get worse.

Thanks for clearing up something I didn't have the energy to Geoff.F!
Steel is springy, hence suspension bridges, etc. I took a set out of a 13 year old K-series and then were under the specified length for re-use.
