wiring up TF instrument cluster to check mileage
Hello, I've got an instrument cluster in the basement out of a 2004/05 TF (LHD) that I bought from a breaker's a few years ago. Somebody has expressed interest in it, but I don't know the exact mileage. Several different five-digit numbers are scribbled on the housing that would all make sense, but ...

EPAS cuts out while manoeuvering
Hello, my EPAS on my '98 F has been acting funny for years. Most of the time it's fine, i.e. when I'm driving at speed, but when I turn the steering wheel back and forth too much at standstill or while manoeuvering at low speed (~ 1-2 mph), it cuts out completely and the EPAS light in the dash comes...

Re: Original MGF Luggage Carrier
I can’t do that, she is the best map reader and satnav I have in the MG   Google Maps has come a long way though :D I can confirm that you will probably never really use a luggage rack unless you want to make a point of frequently travelling somewhere with more than two fullsize sports ba...

Re: Original MGF Luggage Carrier
You're probably set on buying a carrier that involves drilling holes in your bootlid, but just as a suggestion, there are very decent looking aftermarket ones that simply clamp onto the lid with adjustable brackets, where you don't have to drill any holes. Any drill holes in your lid will eventually...

Re: Breaking the mold...
Not sure if I would try to use India Pale Ale on mould. Why not. You can have a drink while you're cleaning it that way. ;) Most household chlorine bleach sold here in Germany has about 1% sodium hypochlorite, I think I saw 2% once but it's rare. They're also kind of phasing out chlorine based clea...

Re: Breaking the mold...
Most kitchen bleach is sodium hypochlorite based, it typically contains about 0.5-2% of the stuff. It's a pretty aggressive cleaning agent, I would only use it on surfaces and soft fabrics around a car, let alone an MGF, if there was no other way to get something clean. Sodium hypochlorite is very e...

Re: Drivers door remains locked
The passengers door opens on the fob if is opened before the drivers stops clicking and relocks - about one second. That's pretty much what happened on my passenger door as well. It probably complicates things a little that yours is presumably RHD and mine is LHD, so my passenger door is your drive...

Re: Breaking the mold...
I was a bit worried about the leather, because you shouldn't normally expose it to harsh chemicals, but a quick wipedown with the bleach on a soft sponge didn't seem to do it any harm. I did give it a generous amount of Audi leather care lotion afterwards. Which I can wholeheartedly recommend, btw. ...

Re: Drivers door remains locked
Hello, I had the same problem yesterday, with the same symptoms. Mine is an LHD, but the door locks should be the same. The right hand side door would unlock when pressing the key fob, but the pin would immediately go down again. Turns out that in my case, it was a corroded release cable pivot. And ...

Breaking the mold...
Hello, hope everyone is enjoying the first few warm days, wherever you are. Here's a bit of a cautionary tale about leaving your F out in the weather too long. After a few weeks of letting it sit in the driveway of an elderly family member who's in poor health and who I'm looking after, it seems that...

Just a follow-up:
changing the rotary coupler did the trick. More than three weeks and 500 miles after the swap, the airbag light hasn't come on again.
And I passed MOT

Re: which airbag rotary coupler for my 1998 MkI
Yes I know a few people here in the area , but in this case, it would have cost more to drive two hours back and forth to this one lad I know than the £17 I just paid on eBay :D The rotary coupler came in the post this morning and I installed it this afternoon and then drove about five miles without...

Re: which airbag rotary coupler for my 1998 MkI
I wasn't sure where to ask at the moment for somebody with a testbook or pscan in my area, with my MOT now already in the grace period, and it seemed a bit much tbh to buy a pscan for this, so I just bought a used YRC100300 rotary coupler off eBay for less than 17 quid including p&p, sold as "in per...

Re: which airbag rotary coupler for my 1998 MkI
Yes it does. It says SRS on it. I removed the glove box yesterday and unplugged the passenger airbag. The connector also seemed fine, no signs of corrosion, but the SRS light still stayed on afterwards. I also tried to get a look at the airbag control unit under the centre console. Not much to see u...

Re: which airbag rotary coupler for my 1998 MkI
ok so I unplugged the seat belt tensioners and the steering wheel airbag. The connectors all seemed fine, no signs of corrosion or anything like that. I wasn't sure how to get to the passenger airbag, but I don't think its connector would be in worse shape than the others. The airbag light apparentl...

Re: which airbag rotary coupler for my 1998 MkI
Right, so far it's just an assumption that it could be the rotary coupler. On my other car, a '99 Audi A4, it's the rotary coupler nine times out of ten when there's an airbag system fault. Which kind of makes sense because it's the only moving part of the system, which is subject to wear and tear. ...

which airbag rotary coupler for my 1998 MkI
Hello, my MkI will need German MOT soon, and I've had the airbag warning light on intermittently for the last few weeks. So I'm going to have to do some fault finding. Maybe I'll have to replace the rotary coupler in the steering wheel, and I've read online that there were apparently two different v...

I don't have pscan, but I know someone with a testbook. We'll probably have a look soon and see if the sensors show something.

Ignition trouble MkI
Hello, bit of a problem, the ignition on my MPI MkI isn't running well, it's more or less fine the first few minutes when the engine is cold, but then it gradually becomes uneven and begins to misfire, and gets worse to the point that the engine will just die. Rotor and distributor cap seem fine, an...
