Re: TF Race Car Build

Next up will be a new adjustable rear engine steady. Just weighed the factory one - a whopping 930g, think I can do better than that.

Re: TF Race Car Build

So got bored of drilling holes in the subframe and snapping drill bits. I will have removed some weight... Modified the Metro subframe/engine mount arm moving the bracket ~10mm forward, putting the engine where it would be if I'd used mgf engine mounts. I also cut out the inner rear wheel arch, as p...

Re: Mud Flaps?? Any Point??

I was not so concerned about stone chips, appreciate you could maybe get them, it was holding in damp and dirt behind them that was a concern. I take your point about Marmite, some will love them and some won't. If they're oem they won't really trap stuff like the aftermarket generic ones will, the...

So my 32 year old Audi coupe and my evo 5 will get hammered because there is no data for them, therefore guilty.

A real possibility is that if you are using the original 114 fuel pump, the injectors are running out of fuel as the rpm increases: you may need to fit a higher capacity fuel pump :)
I used the same metro gti fuel pump on my vvc 160 race car as i did when it was a 1.4.

What have you used to paint it? I've always used either Zinga or Galvafroid with Chassis Black as a top coat, not cheap, but lasts for years.
That's a mini subframe which gave me the idea.

Engine out today, replaced the 600lb coilover springs with 700s and started attacking the subframe with a holesaw.

Re: TF Race Car Build

So there I was watching How It's Made Dream Cars, and the episode that caught my attention was the Ultima Evolution. The rear lower wishbone/track control arm is such a simple design, so this will be used as part of my plans for a lightweight rear subframe. http://www.ultima-dubai.info/photogallery/...

Re: TF Race Car Build

Cool: would need to get the pipe bent: I'm thinking a single section of tube bent into a "U" to form most of the perimeter, and then build from there. :) Use box section and gusset the joints if your worried. Using round tube is a lot more work. I need to get hold of a TF rear subframe, but could u...

25mm od tube with no more than 2mm wall thickness, 1.5mm would probably be about right.

If the arm is cast, welding is not that straight forward - how about fabricating a cds arm to replace the cast one?

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Steel Top Hat shims each side machined I/D and O/D to allow the new stub axles to be bolt in. I'm assuming the allegro ones are fitted by heating up the arm to expand the hole?
