Re: Another Tyre Question
The summer tyres of my car were mixed as well, 215/40R16 GS-D2s on the rear (almost worn blank) and same size GS-D3s on the front (6mm tread left but 6 resp. 8 years old). I decided to go for new ones all round and found a bargain, 280 Euros fitted. I then took the 2 old GS-D3s and put them on eBay,...

Re: Age is just a number...or is it?
I was actually infected with the British sports car virus at the age of 5, when I used to be driven round my beloved home town (Hamburg) in a red Spitfire. Our neighbour owned one and when he was home (naval engineer) he took me to the harbour to inspect his ship. Guess it's just another early child...

Re: Oh B****r!!!
Would you believe it? 40 per-f***ing-cent ?? On an 85 LE ??? Insurers and garages are a bunch of mafiosi imho. My mother-in-law had quite similar an accident with her 09 VW Golf in November. Insurer sent an expert to inspect the car, he estimated 7.000 Euros to fix it at a temporary value of ...

Re: Interior lights
Well Jon, so the plot thickens. Might be one of the switches in the door mechanisms, or the wires in the loom going into the doors. I would actually rule out the multi-function ECU itself or the fixed cables and header joints in the first place. These tend to rather work or not, normally not produci...

Re: Interior lights
Hi Jon, the switches are actually incorporated into the door lock assemblies. Yet they do not control the interior lights directly, but via the multi function ECU. Current also runs across some taps and headers buried deep down somewhere :D . So to get down a bit more to the core it would help to kn...

Re: Heated door mirrors
On the Continent we say, 50 watts on top mean 0.05 litres per 100 km more fuel consumption. But this is an average over all cars, and diesels are much better on this than petrol cars. Add a little loss in the way from the engine through the alternator and relays, and you can make this a 0.1 increase...

Re: Unidentifies wires in boot - what are they?
The hole in the lid where the cables are coming from actually is the bracket where the lamp is supposed to sit. And the loose connectors are the ones fitted there. Something around the boot lock seems to be modded, do you have an electric boot opener fitted? The heated rear window loom is located ne...

Re: What is this relay please?
But it could be an explanation to the battery drain. The spare terminals in the fuse box are 3 - auxiliary (ign. switch in pos. 1) 4 - side lights on 5 - permanent 12V supply I used 3 and 4 for the DTLR mod, that's how I found out. Wouldn't want to hook up anything to permanent supply, as you never ...

Re: Heated door mirrors
50 watts, blimey, thats huge! Could play in the half-a-mile-per-gallon league. For those (like me) not having a hard top, it might be an idea to pop in the heated rear window switch/relay and simply re-wire the output to the mirrors. Could save some petrol in the warmer seasons.

The German synchro was nothing too remarkable, maybe because Gottfried Kramer gave his voice to the toddler's programme "Piggeldy und Frederick" at the same Time

Rob, from my side it's okay to move it, yet I am not the thread opener. If Mark is fine with that ... I think I will go the Magnecor way, it's 60 Euros vs. 87 Euros as to the current offers I got, that is okay. What do you reckon air-filter-wise? Does it make sense to get a K&N panel filter for 50 E...

Perfectly right, Rob. It seems that those young design people at the motorist's newspapers have an early childhood trauma from watching too much Japanese cartoons. Unfortunately, the styling departments at some manufacturers' suffer from the same disease, as here is another no-go-example which can s...

Re: Unidentifies wires in boot - what are they?
No light in the boot ... hmmm. It should sit in the boot lid a little to the n/s of the lock. Do you have a wiring loom going into the boot lid alongside the n/s hinge? If not, then somebody might just have taken out the cables running there and rewired them to the back of the car, maybe to set up a...

Re: Headlights are like candles, any improvements?
If the lamps fail on MoT getting them rechromed will help. I was told that Dual Metallising in Birmingham do a great job on this, even giving improvement over the original reflectors wear-wise.
