Gosh, Andrew,
"expensive" might even be a bit weak an expression ... for that price there's a 2005 (!) reg MGF for sale in the UK ...
Happy Easter,
Mykel

Re: tyre advice needed please
Hi Leigh, as it's a VVC you have, I suppose you have 16" alloys with 215/40 tyres all round. At least that is what I got as standard on my 2000 VVC. After reading a lot of reviews and browsing various stores, I decided to have a complete set of Nexen N3000 fitted, sometimes sold as Roadstone N3000 a...

Re: What a Bummer...
Hi Gary, for one sphere this sounds quite expensive, but with supplies having faded out I suppose it's the old demand and offer game now. On eBay I can recommend this store , they have a couple of hydragas spheres listed, front and rear ones, yet I don't know if any Trophy ones are around there as w...

Re: What a Bummer...
Hi Gary, I'd also recommend the eBay way. Got me a pair of rear spheres for the standard version (they went out of supply before the Trophy ones actually) for 25 quid each. The first one is now de-rusted and cleaned, the second one still awaiting treatment. I put them in the cellar simply to have so...

Re: oil temp gauge reads low
Here's the link to the article on Dieter's site.
It seems that the resistance values on the old spec models are too low to fit the more modern equipment. So, if you put a new spec sensor into a pre-MEMS3 car, the resistance will be too high, giving low temp reading on the old spec gauges.

Great, Chris
hadn't heard that one before. But then ... the fun starts east of 4.000 rpm, and to cover up on lower revs, a decent stereo always does the trick

who loves his VVC

Yep, unfortunately Scangauge II only works on MEMS3 cars (OBD-II compliant). Otherwise I'd have the original ones out in a minute.

Re: How to repair a rotary coupler
horns save lives stereo don't. Hmm, I think this largely depends on the communicative capabilities of the person in the passenger's seat. But adding stereo controls would actually be a nice touch. Yet nowadays most head units come with an IR remote control anyway. So any kind of installation ...

Re: Transmission problems (((((
I think I'd go for the blue refurb one, mainly because it's de-rusted and the clutch lever has already been upgraded to the one with the grease nipple. This will pay off in the long run.
The C4BP code is correct for the VVC engine.

Re: oil temp gauge reads low
Oh those oil temp gauges ... probably the crappiest parts on the whole car, apart from the dreaded head gasket. When going Autobahn speeds in this weather (90-100 mph at 24 degrees :thumbsu: ) mine reads up to 140 degrees oil temperature, would be perfect for preparing a portion of fish&chips in :lo...

Have a look under the bonnet, if you find a device like this on the o/s you have ABS on board, otherwise you don't.

Re: suspension adjustment / MGF
The measurement is to be taken on the front wheels actually, 368 millimetres from centre cap to wheel arch at a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius is the correct value. I've heard about some cars being pumped up over the winter while freezing to the standard height and now with summer on its way they...

Re: Split Rear Window
Best idea IMHO would be to replace it with a glass panel, a quick DIY fix actually, have a look at this video on youtube presented by Peter Jones from MGFMania. They get these panels delivered to your doorstep for around 200 quid and then you even have a heated rear window (provided the switch and r...

Hi Richard, nothing too serious actually, front bumper has to come off (20 mins job, had to do this to change the headlights) and rear part of the hood unclipped and folded up to get access to under the carpet of the hoodwell. Cable is clipped to the o/s wing mounting and runs alongside the wiring l...

Re: How late a VVC engine can I use?
If the engine is from an MGF, you can use all from a MEMS 2J equipped car, that is up to the 522xxx VIN range (late 2000 I'd say). As for other Rover models I can't really tell any VINs, yet imho opinion they should be identifiable from the second after-cat lambda sensor, which is a MEMS 3 feature o...

Re: VVC rattle on tickover
A ticking/tapping sound is quite normal for a VVC engine, so if everything else is okay this is nothing to worry about. This is actually quite audible on mine as well when cold, after warming up it's much better, yet still enough to thell the engine from an MPi without looking under the boot lid whe...

Re: Air intake Hose
Not at all yet, Steve, it just sits there, close to the vent. Unfortunately the original tube is too short and bent in the wrong way. As the original airbox is still in place, the draft from the engine is sufficient to get enough air into the system, I suppose. And it is much cooler in this whole ar...
