Re: Hydragas regassing (again)

My 1997 MGF suspension has reached the end of its life. It was pumped up to 400 psi and 365mm height five years ago but has now sunk back to 350mm and the ride is dreadful, like a plank on roller skates. I think the Hydragas displacers have exhausted their nitrogen charge after 23 years and somethi...

Have values gone up?

The September edition of Safety Fast has seven privately advertised F/TF's with an average asking price in excess of £3k. Mostly reasonably low mileage and seemingly well kept cars but not Trophy's or special colours. I know asking price doesn't necessarily equal achieved price but is this an indica...

Re: New Member From Derbyshire

Morning Everyone, Thank you for letting me join. New member from Derbyshire. I have a 1996 MGF in red. Will post pic. 92EF48CD-20C7-40AA-869E-C736404FF912.jpeg Whereabouts in Derbyshire are you? Looks like you may need a suspension pump up - I'm near Bakewell and have a pump if you need any help. J...

Sounds like it is the VVC mechanism (if it is a VVC) but don't know why that would suddenly happen.

And yes, it has an upper front rail :thumbsu: (amazing how many people fit them the other way around!)
All the pictures on the Revo Rack website show the rack the other way round!

Hydragas as it should be

Recently had refurbished spheres supplied & fitted by MG Obsession in Swadlincote for what I think is a reasonable £440. Excellent, friendly and efficient service by them. However when I started the drive home I had a major shock as the car was almost undriveable, rock hard and leaping all over the ...

Boot Bag

Has anyone had any experience of using one of these on an F, please?
Slightly worried about any risk of overheating by blocking or at least upsetting the airflow to the boot vents.

Re: Hydrolastic hand pump

Here are the instructions.
If you want to PM me I can email you the scan.
It's really not difficult, just connect the pump, put some fluid in the pump and pump away.

It costs nothing after you have bought a foot pump with a pressure gauge.

Nil cost coolant pressure tester

Other people may have done this but I haven't seen it anywhere. Having suffered a small coolant loss for some time with no evidence of where it was, I decided that a pressure test was the only answer. Shocked at the cost of the universal testers I decided to knock up my own. PT 2.JPG Most F owners s...

Re: Front Bottom Ball Joint - HELP please!

Thanks for your suggestions all of you. However it turns out the (OE) part is faulty! Diameter of hole in the hub is 26.5mm, diameter of old joints is 26.5mm, diameter of top part of pin on new joint is 26.5mm, diameter of bottom part of pin is 27.5mm! Will see how I get on with a replacement part....

Re: Front Bottom Ball Joint - HELP please!

This would not be the only one in a batch!! I imagine there are many more like this floating around in the spare parts supply chain?? The supplier Steve McKie, a local MG specialist, checked his stock and all the right hand side ones were faulty. However his supplier claimed to know nothing about i...

Front Bottom Ball Joint - HELP please!

Thought I had done the hard bit after drilling the rivets out but the hub just won't slide home on the new ball joint. The other side slid on fine. Have tried (very lightly) reaming the socket with emery to no avail. Doesn't seem to matter what I do it won't go fully home. Anybody any ideas, please?...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

Lower front ball joints were an advisory last year so was going to get my garage to do them as I knew it is a balls aching job. However the lock down means I have plenty of time so have been doing it myself with the help of the online How To's. Wow, what a so and so of a job! Angle grinder working o...
