Re: Another insurance moan

A-Plan weren't able to get even close to the Peter Best deal - but then that is a little unfair: the car is now on a classic-car insurance deal rather than a road car one. Will contact A-Plan again next year... who knows? Maybe they will want my custom by then ;)

Re: Limited Edition MGTF 160

I wonder how many Freestyles have been advertised as Trophy's Adrian, given the similarity in exerior appearance (spoilers front and rear)?

Good result all round then Kim! Is the new owner on this forum? Feel free to point them in this direction if not :thumbsu:

Good luck with what ever car you replace the MG with. What are you getting/ have you got?

Re: Cold Heater

Should be relatively easy to tell - a leaking heater box as Stan suggests - is a common affliction and readily solved. A leaking heater matrix will give the dampness that typical sickly-sweet coolant smell - and if you're brave, is sweet to taste (don't do this at home folks!) Naturally, water ingre...

Re: alternative running gear

On both the MGF and TF, the suspension geometry is almost entirely defined by the subframe, only on the MGF are the dampers bolted directly to the body work. The curved chassis member is part of the front crash structure - so from that perspective, best left if possible. Altering the thrust angle of...

Re: Fast Idle

Accidently forgot to reconnect the TPS sensor plug after doing some work on the car on Saturday. Revs would not fall down to a decent idle speed, even with the engine hot. Exhaust smelt rich too. Quickly figured the problem and reconnected the plug - return of normal service. In your case, the plug ...

Re: Cold Heater

Rich, the matrix bleed point is labelled as (a) in http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/coolant/coolant_bleed_procedure.htm - just under the wiper linkage. I had this same problem - which turned out to be an airlock due to a leaking hose from the engine outlet pipe. Initially there was no evidence o...

Re: No "closing panel". Is that a problem?

That was 30 quid? Crumbs. :( Not worth that surely? It looks like an MGF panel. As has been said, better than nothing, and will do the job, with some modifications to suit the bolt hole pattern. I wonder - is this from an MY2000 MGF nearside wheel arch, rather than the offside? Somehow, it doesn't l...

Re: mgf size of the seat bolts

Ensure that you use high tensile bolts - stainless steel is not an ideal material as it's brittle and could break under the shear loads. :(

Re: Mgf Pumpup, fluid advice please.

Better check on teh Mercedes fluid - just to confirm its constituents. If a methylated spirit/glycol mix, it'll probably be fine. But given that you have Minis out in Canada, I would think that you would have a supply of proper Hydralastic fluid too? Good luck with the business plan John. Some garag...

Re: Coolant leak, well more of a gush!

Could be water pump - that end of the engine is certainly soaked. Also, the point of water exit would be pretty obscured if this were the case. Pop off the cam cover - the point of water exit may well then reveal itself.

No water hoses in this area unfortunately.

Final up date on this thread - fitted the newly modified rear hydragas sphere on Saturday. Second time doing the job, and it only took me about 2.5 hours, so getting faster I think! Sphere is in and pressurised, and the car is sitting nice and level. Job done. Next task is to write the "how to...

Anyone seen the news and seen the video? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ :o

Thoughts very much with those caught up in all this. In the film footage, you can see motorists trying to escape the approaching wave... :o Jeepers...
