Re: Gearbox life expectancy opinions needed
The gearbox is one of the main components in a car and as far as I know cars are designed to last around 10 years. The fact that the government scrappage scheme was for cars of this vintage indicates that they also expect the useful working life of a car to last this time. Unlike the others above I ...

Re: Tyre Pressures MGF
As Rob says the tyre sizes were never fitted as standard to any MGFs. When I ran 17" wheels with 205s on the front and 215s on the rear (Toyo tyres) I used 28psi on the front and 30psi on the back and found that worked fine. However, my car has been lowered, has adjustable shockers and poly bushes f...

Re: Couple of Questions!
They really do look awsome - one of the best designs Mike ever sold IMO :thumbsu: Pretty rare too - you don't see too many around? I wonder how many sets Mike purchased? Technomagnesia aren't they DC? No Rob these wheels are made in Italy by Alessio. Did Technomagnesia not make some of the other st...

Re: Couple of Questions!
1spy I see you're from Central Scotland. I've a set of 17" Mike Satur wheels with tyres lying in my garage that I've been thinking of selling for a while. They are a direct fit (no spacers needed) and I ran them for a number of years without any problems. The only reason that I changed them was that...

Re: Tonneau Cover
You need the modified cover (special one) if you've got roll hoops. You only need to modify the cover if you've got Mk I XPower Hoops or Safety Devices Hoops. The cover fits fine with all of the types that fit through the T-Bar. Mark I X-Power Hoops and windstop - http://www.csmgf.co.uk/darkside/wi...

Rob, Geoff's right. A few years ago a hardtop could easily fetch £600 - £800. Now they seem to go for about £350 - £400.

Re: Redundancy!!! Advice Required!!!
Darren, I hate to tell you but a '96 MGF even in very good condition isn't going to be worth a lot of money. What are the other cars? Could you not sell one of them and keep the F?

Re: Windstops
I have a factory type mesh windstop but mine is mounted via some long bracket that fix under the T-bar and come out and around so there is no drilling required, which is good because I have a leather T-bar :) Matt, sounds like you have a Newton Commercial windstop. As you say they look very similar...

You know Colin you might be right. Here's the Millau Viaduct with me holding the camera above the windscreen (and remember this cost nothing) -colintf wrote:Whats Lynn like with a camera John?
May be a lot cheaper and more effective??

Re: InCar Photography
I've used both the SM1 and SM7 (Hama) and I would say that the SM1 gives a more stable platform for videos but the SM7 is easier to use. I looked at Hague's videos on You Tube and I must say that the road surface that they were on must have been pretty smooth and they also couldn't have been going v...

John, this is the one that I use made by Hama - http://base0.googlehosted.com/base_media?q=FroogleCatalog_CNETI572273.jpg&size=20&dhm=4f0f520d&hl=en Sparky mentioned auto focus. I always find that it's better to switch the camera to manual and focus just outside the car. If you leave it on auto you ...

Re: Radio/internals fuse continually blows + 'Boot Open' lig
If the car's been in hibernation I think that it's unlikely that the wires behind the radio will have been disturbed. Although if you've fitted a new radio while it's been laid up that might well be the problem area. However, I bet that you've opened the boot a few times while the car's been off the...

In the lost spark set-up a coil pack sits on top of a plug and a lead goes to the other one - 2 coil packs and 2 leads.

That's fine with me, I would just edit it so that it removes the bit about locking the thread.

Re: How do I delete one of my postings?
Hilly, threads on Forums more often as not tend to wander a bit. I can understand your frustration of not getting an answer to your question, but that doesn't mean that people were not interested in what you were talking about. The number of people that replied showed this. I was just about to answe...

Re: How do I delete one of my postings?
If people have taken the time to answer your question, even if you do not like their replies, I do not think it is good form to delete your posts which will make the thread look revery strange with answers to a 'non question'. I will lock the thread so no more posts can be made but please do not de...

Re: Duratec Engine in MGF
A Duratec transplant has been discussed several times over the years, but I don't know of anyone that has actually done it. The TF 500 ran a Ford Cosworth engine so I suppose anything is possible (at a cost)
