Re: MGF Exhaust Route and Type 1.8i v VVC

If you look at the diagram Rob posted, find the flange on the downpipe where is bolts to the manifold and then follow the pipe down to the first bend. The sensor mounting boss in located on the top face just after this bend (so sensor points upwards when fitted). I can't see the mounting boss on the...

Re: MGF Exhaust Route and Type 1.8i v VVC

The route is the same for all years. MEMS3 cars have a different cat/silencer to earlier cars (the cat to silencer flange is in a different position, and there is a second O2 sensor after the cat. MEMS3 cars also have a 6 stud manifold to down pipe flange, on earlier cars its 4 stud. The position of...

Re: Monthly pub meet

Have just spoken to the Three Horseshoes to book the table for this months meet on Wed 14th. As you know the current owners are retiring mid September, and unfortunately I have discovered the pub will close when they go :( They will still be open in September when our meet is due to take place, but ...

Re: Squeaky rear!

I would check the rear pads for wear (check inner & outer pad).
The pads have a metal strip on them that rubs against the edge of the disc when they are worn, and causes a squeal/rubbing/grinding noise, to let you know they need changing.

Re: Immobilser/alarm query please?

Richard, If the car is locked using the key, the alarm and immobiliser will still be set, the only part of the system that wont be set is the volumetric sensor, which detects movement inside the car. This function is designed so that you can leave a person/animal in the car with it locked without th...

Re: New owner - Pektron fob question

ps Gavin207, please can I clarify 'deadlock isn't optional on a TF' by saying that I understand owners had the option to push the fob button twice on Fs - the first to lock and the second to deadlock or super-lock? (If they weren't 1.6s, I think...) Your correct, on earlier cars with the rectangula...

Re: Bell crank replaced, shifting problems.

Interesting, when I purchased my bell crank from Mike Satur some years ago it came supplied with a threaded adapter to do exactly what you have done. I assumed it was designed to allow the bell crank to be used on both the F and TF by either using the adapter or not depending on which length of gear...

Re: Bell crank replaced, shifting problems.

The link you posted points to an MGTF bell crank, is this what you have had fitted?
The bell cranks are different on the MGF and TF as one of the gear change cables is a different length.

Re: MGF purchase

Hi and welcome to the fourm :thumbsu: I would say its unlikely to have faded like that if the paintwork is all original, as you would expect it to all fade at a similar rate. I certainly wouldn't expect to see a an un-faded strip round the edge, which is sounds like this has. Its possible someone ha...

Re: Peculiar plipper problem

Which type of key fob do you have, the earlier rectangular Lucas fob or the newer oval shaped Pektron Fob? If its the earlier type, then there is a re-sync process in the handbook that should be followed after changing the fob battery. IIRC it basically involves unlocking the car with the key and pr...

Which model of MGF is it?
They didn't all come with central locking as standard, particularly the 1.6 engined cars which typically have a lower spec.

Re: Car required constant steering run out of ideas.

After checking all the bushes and wheels bearings for play, my next suspect would be the tyres, as the F (and TF) can be very sensitive to tyre choice. May be worth seeing if a fellow owner local to you can lend you a set for wheels fitted with matched (& preferably recommended) tyres to see if it c...

Re: Mg f won t start

Had something very similar happen on my TF, so good chance its the same issue. I had driven 10 miles and turned the engine off. When I tried to restart 10-15 mins later and the dash lights all came on, and I heard the fuel pump start, but it didn't even attempt to turn over. AA came out diagnosed a ...

Re: MGF - Strange Engine issue

Hi and welcome. The fact the issue disappears after a few minutes suggests its related to cold running, so could be sensor related. Any other symptoms such as sooty exhaust or cooling fans running constantly? The good news is a 2002 car should have mems3 engine management which make diagnosis a litt...
