SOLVED! Mk2 Alternator in Mk1 car ?

Hi, all you knowledgeable folk on here ! Have any of you managed to fit a Mk2 alternator (the one with the push-on connector) to an early MGF (bolt-on wire)? Problem is, the later model has a two wire connector with the brown-yellow cable for the charge control lamp and a white-red one connected to ...

Re: FOR SALE: 2004 MGZS 1.8 CatD "Trackcar Project"?

It took me quite a while to figure out what “MIL” meant – to me that’s usually Malfunction Indicator Light. Quite apt anyway, though, I guess …

WANTED! MGF front bumper in HFF

As per headline, I’m after an MGF front bumper in HFF (BRG pearlescent) in VGC. Will be coming over to Stoneleigh on the weekend 9/10 February and could collect at the show or (almost) anywhere in the CM/SG/MK/NN/CV post code areas on my way on the Saturday. Fog lamp brackets welcome but not a must....

Re: head gasket issue

Usually I use a scraping tool (for glass ceramic cooktops) very, VERY carefully to remove all remains of the old gasket on both the head and the block, then clean everything off with 600 grit paper. Never had any issues with this.

Success! :thumbsu:

I’ve been sent a pic of the original sticker, which apparently is missing on my pump. So to all it may concern, here’s the instructions:

Re: head gasket issue

Ah, sorry Dave, missed that. Did you check the liners for movement inside the block? I always try to turn them (quite thoroughly) when the head is off to make sure they have not come loose on their seats. If they have, there can be movement under load and they will “hammer in” the fire rings.

Hydragas pump question

Does anyone on here have one of the LL hydragas pumps in the pic attached? I have been given this one and for the love of Jesus can’t figure out how to turn the four ball taps to either pump up or evacuate the system. An instruction manual or any kind of documentation would come quite handy, so any ...

Re: head gasket issue

Head gone soft? From my experience, if it needs a skim due to indentation of fire rings, it’s soft as cheese cake and not worth any efforts. Exhaust gas blow off into coolant being the usual sign.

Getting a replacement head would be my suggestion.

Request for help - not MGF though

Hi folks,
Not entirely MGF related, but is anyone one here available to have a look at an MGBGT that’s up for sale in Wolverhampton? Would appreciate an opinion about the car before flying in from Germany.
Please PM me for details.

Re: Tucking car up for winter

I never cared about fuel issues when the TF is off the road from end of October until April. Our cars have a sealed fuel system - that’s why there’s a pressure hiss when you open the filler cap - so I doubt much gasses can evaporate, especially when it’s cold. What I do is: - wash, dry and wax - put...

Re: TF 135 will not idle; just stalls.. Why?

Cylinder 1 actually is the one closest to the timing belt, well at least on straight engines NOT conceived in France (just had to learn that the hard way  ). But as the TF employs a wasted spark ignition system on cylinders 1 and 4 (and 2 and 3 respectively), any issues on one of the paired plu...
