Re: Lost orignal key and alarm fob to MGF Freestyle 2001
Rob is the Register’s MGF guru, also known as Master Yoda on this site. I had a little chat with him last night and told him about your issues.

Re: Lost orignal key and alarm fob to MGF Freestyle 2001
Hi Catherine, the key itself is actually completely passive, with the immobiliser being part of the alarm control unit and the remote fob. This unit “talks” to the engine control unit and allows it to start the engine. So normally the fob will both open the doors and disarm the immobiliser (for abou...

Re: TF 135 will not idle; just stalls.. Why?
Throttle potentiometer would be my first port of call, try to disconnect it, which should result in a slightly raised idle speed (emergency value applies).

Re: MGF CVT damper plate assembly
Oh no! The Wedgie has gone Mykel? I still remember the car well! :) Sadly it has, Rob. With a knackered input shaft seal on the box and the “death rattle” coming from the damper plate with no replacement in sight I couldn’t justify to keep three of them licenced. Sad to see her go, though, it was s...

Re: Tyres and the MoT !
The speed limit on the spare is because you’re running vastly different sizes on one axle, which is supposed to slightly compromise road holding.

Re: SS underfloor pipes
Ah, I see, that’s a different story then, Charles. Our Markus is a very experienced s/s welder, maybe he’s got some tips for you. If it’s just a stop gap you’re after, I’d suggest to pop in at Tony’s and grab a pair of mild steel ones. They should hold for that short period of time. And give a hug t...

Re: Coolant leak, well more of a gush!
Head gasket gone, I’m 100% sure. That’s the usual location for the seals to break. Most probably still a single layer gasket with silicon beads. If the head didn’t suffer from overheating, just change the gasket to an MLS one. No water in oil gives a hint to the liners still being tightly sealed in ...

Re: MGF CVT damper plate assembly
I have just googled for Ford 6482387 and 89CT7F297AA (the OE part number) alike, these are nowhere to be found as well. Apparently they were originally made for a 1991-1996 Ford Fiesta Mk3 1.3i CVT, so even far longer off the market than our cars. Basically this thing rattling (and a weeping input s...

Re: MGF CVT damper plate assembly
I’m afraid it’s a subframe out job, as the CVT box is far bigger and heavier than the manual. When you’re from Sandy, have a chat with Rob and Nick at BS Motors, 1 Stockton End.
Btw, where did you find that damper plate, they’ve been NLA for ages!

Re: Stepspeed problems
Sounds like the belt has disintegrated indeed. The auto box sadly can’t be taken out of the car with the subframe in place, that’s a major job, but worth it if you can get hold of a good replacement box. Try Martin Smith if he has one, as his parts are well checked before he sells them.

Tell them to just send in their registration emails and book the rooms, Marina, everything else should be dealt with in due course.

Heard a similar story from another German couple just yesterday. With just four weeks to go, payment requests should hav...
