Re: 2005 MY TF

I have an MY 2005 TF160. The chrome 160 badges on the front wings are standard fit. There should also be a chrome 'TF' badge positioned centrally on the rear, below the MG badge (and no 160 badge on the rear). Pre MY 2005 cars don't have the wing badges, and have a satin finish 'TF' and 160 badges b...

Re: MG logo - wheel centre caps

Do they have the proper chrome edging around the the inside of the octagon and edging the letters?
That's were most of the cap inserts I have seen fall down, as they tend to just print those bits silver to keep the cost down, and it just doesn't look quite right.

Re: Growling wiper motor

The motor casings on all F/TF's suffer from water ingress. If your lucky you can unbolt the motor casing and empty out the water/sludge and dry out the motor before reassembling. Drilling a drain hole at the lowest point on the casing (when fitted to the car) can stop it recurring. If your unlucky t...

Re: "Modern" MGF tyre recommendations

For 16" wheels the current recommendation is the Falken Ziex ZE310 Ecorun, which replaced the ZE914 last year.
Quick google suggest you can get Falken tyres is Australia, although https://www.falken.com.au/ still lists the ZE914 not the ZE310.

Re: EML....as come on today......

You need to determine if its bank 1 sensor 1 (pre cat) or bank 1 sensor 2 (post cat). The sensors are the same part, but changing the wrong obviously one wont solve the issue. Sensors are about £40-50, removing the old sensors can be a little challenging (particularly with sensor 1) due to the heat ...

Re: MGTF Tyres and service

Have a local garage that does very basic spannering.
For the rest, including servicing, I normally use Austin Garages which is a little over an hour away form us.
We tend to drop a car off on a Saturday and pick it up the following Sat, or sometimes collect the 1st car and drop off a 2nd

Re: MGTF Tyres and service

Ali has E310's on the rear of her TF160 (with 914's on the front), fitted several months ago.
Can't say I have noticed any difference from the 914's that were on it before.
I'll be putting set of 310's on my TF later in the year.

January Pub meet

Apologies for not getting anything sorted for Christmas, but we have had a bit of a time of it over the last couple of weeks. Both us and family are fine, will explain next time we next get together. On that subject, I am thinking of trying this place for our meet this month (Wednesday 8th January)....

Re: Boot Lid warning light

Don't think there is any issue driving with the warning light illuminated so long are your sure the boot lid is closed and secured. I'm assuming its been fine and just suddenly started happening, so I would begin by checking the wiring loom adjacent to the left hand boot lid hinge for damage, at the...

Just use our local tyre fitters, BT Tyres in Rugby.
Prices are pretty competitive and they can get most tyres next day.

Re: Where u buying your Falkens?

Falken 914's were superseded with the ZE310 in the summer, which may be why your now struggling to get 914's.
Good news is that 310's are just as good (we have some on one of our TF's) :thumbsu:

Re: Coolant hoses - best options?

Yes silicone hoses are available from a few sources. Its worth reading the small print before purchase though, as some are not recommended for use with all types of OAT. Some manufacturers say you need to use IAT or an OAT that is free from 2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) if you don't want to invalidat...

Re: Newbie buying / ride height question

What does the MOT history look like? any failures or advisory's in the last few years?
What kind of service history does it have?
Would also check what tyres are fitted, both age and brand/model. MGF's (&TF's) are quite fussy about tyres so replacements may need to be factored into the decision too.

Re: Tyre query!!!

They are acceptable size wise as Mk2 F's fitted with 16" wheels came with 215/40R16 all round fitted from the factory. Its was only when the MGF trophy was introduced that they fitted 195/45R16 on the front and 215/40R16 on the back, and this was then carried over onto the MGTF. Whats more important...
