Re: Cheap PRT conversion MGF 2001

Thanks Daz, I'd be going for the front as well, I'm sure I can live with a slower warm up time, I'd much rather the stat starts opening at a lower temp to avoid the thermal shocks discussed in detail above

An hour? Brilliant, thought it might take a bit longer although it may well do for me!

Re: Cheap PRT conversion MGF 2001

Thank you for the advice :) I don't trust myself to have the correct length of pipe from cutting so to ensure no time has to sort off the road I may well purchase myself a length of 40mm silicone along with the T piece just for peace of mind that if I do need the extra pipe I've got it there I'm not...

Re: Cheap PRT conversion MGF 2001

Thinking about doing this myself due to water pump failure prompting a Timing belt and waterpump change from MG Rover Mobile Mechanics in Derby leading to further consideration over the coolant system (in particular the not ideal position of the thermostat and the various reasons discussed above), a...

Re: R Reg MGf VVC £300 ish near Leamington Spa

If I had £250 spare I would do however I'm having mg rover mobile mechanics out to do my cambelt and water pump at a cost of £200 so that'll do for now! Bargain, nice people as well. Damn sight cheaper than same job on a 944 - the water pump was £250! And is it actually faster than a VVC? Yeah they...

Re: Injectors/Inlet manifold

Thanks Daz - I just left them as was in the end, much easier with the two part manifold! Not yet :( still need to get a lambda sensor and hangers and then I should be good to go! Although after fixing the inlet manifold leak the water pump now seems to have given up the goat and is leaking everywher...

Re: MGF Mod Plans and Prices

Believe it or not, folks have fitted L-series diesels in MGFs before (loads of different engine transplants tried, including Honda VTEC, Rover KV6, electric, gas turbine/electric hybrid... you name it...!) I've seen the VTEC and KV6 threads as well as the 1.8T conversion but that's all a bit ...

Hello, are you both still interested in doing something down Cirencester way sometime soon? Maybe a week Sunday?
Anyone within driving distance will be welcome of course should you wish to come regardless of your register region

Injectors/Inlet manifold

So this weekend I'm embarking on swapping my leaky plastic manifold for the nice alloy one Now I'm pretty sure both my manifold and the replacement have the blue injectors - now my question here is 'does the orientation of the injectors matter' I.e they came with the multiplugs facing down; now this...

Re: MGF shock absorber bush alternatives?

How old are your shocks? If you're going to the effort of changing the bushes and the shocks are original I'd recommend changing the shocks themselves while you're planning to have everything off down there, false economy not to (unless the shocks have been changed in the last few years anyway)

Re: Corroded speakers rant

If we can arrange some way to get them to you I will dig them out tonight and you can have them :) The MINI rings though, you screw the aftermarket speakers into them, and then the rings into the doors with the same screws that held the OE speakers in place :) I'm more than happy to cover the posta...

I have a set of dead speakers still in the plastic ring if they are any use? Otherwise I used ZS speakers to replace the ones in the F... or you can possibly use MINI adaptor rings: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Mini-2001-onwards-165mm-17cm-Front-Door-Speaker-Adaptor-Kit-Rings-SAK-1211-/11139719141...

Re: Corroded speakers rant

Thanks for the link, I'm not really sure what to do as I don't have the kit to rivet the frames back in - plus I'd like the use aftermarket speakers if possible

The adaptors seem to be a good shout but would I have to drill new holes or just use really long screws haha?

Re: Corroded speakers rant

The speakers have not got the plastic ring, the original owner had fitted kenwoods and already disposed of the surround Thanks TC, I don't know why I didn't think of that! I've been following dieters instructions; http://www.mgfcar.de/adjust/index_e.htm However he says to align the adjuster to the b...

Re: Selecting Reverse

I wouldn't have thought the bolts alone would help with reaching reverse, but I'm no expert and still learning about these cars myself I recently changed my gear cable, and still get a touch of grinding occasionally from reverse but it's much better after I did a slight adjustment to the fore/aft ca...

Re: For Sale: K&N 57i Induction Air Filter - £69

I wouldn't know where the hole needs to be drilled myself so I'm not entirely sure, I'll be removing one of mine to do the front knuckle in any case so I'll get a practice in but as you say the rears are much more difficult...I'll certainly have a go if needs be, it can only be as bad as the gear ca...

Re: For Sale: K&N 57i Induction Air Filter - £69

I think the whole point is they should be able to fitted in situ without removal of the units From what I've heard it's a case of a pilot hole then a 13mm hole for the valve and then regas and job is a good one However it's not been tested yet and Mike is awaiting the first batch to test - hopefully...

Re: For Sale: K&N 57i Induction Air Filter - £69

OK no worries... It might be £70 but that sounds remarkable cheap compared to other MS products, also you'll have to pay for somewhere to re-gass the nitrogen and then pay someone else to refill the hydroelastic fluid if you don't have your own pump... Well the current blurb says he expects to brin...
