Re: Coolant temperature sensor.

I'd suggest an "Italian tune up" first Rick. Get the catalyst right up to peak temperature and burn the unburnt hydrocarbons off. Also check the airfilter - or is it a new one fitted recently? A clogged airfilter can play havock with emissions... Basically, don't buy a new cat until you're absolutel...

Re: mike satur roll hoops

Mike's roll hoops are, in my opinion, the best option of all those available. Certainly a good deal neater than the Mk2 X-Power hoops, and more substantial than the competing MGF Centre items (also the Mike Satur ones look better too). As David's picture shows, you can get a OEM look - which ironica...

Re: Speckled Hen anyone??

It's only a two hour drive for me! :thumbsu: The MGF and I will be there in late June for the Western Washington All British Field Meet. Their theme this year is "Honoring 80 Years of the MG Car Club" Here's the event web site in case anyone is interested in dropping by! http://abfm.com/ Fancy that...

Re: Which spark plugs?

I doubt if much is manufactured in HK these days - cheaper to do it in the PRC

But good point well made. Lots of forged components in original looking packaging, so beware.

Re: Electrics problem

Do you have another HU to try? This will isolate whether the head unit is at fault (if you can you could try it in another car) - which would lead us to think on how the lack of interior lights might fit with a non-functioning radio (I still suspect the wiring loom where it enters the door - could b...

Re: imobilizer problem

Hi Marios, The key turning in the lock from left to right is what is refered to as the "Emergency Key Access". There is a 4-digit code, individual to each car, that can be entered to disable the immobiliser. This number should be in your owner's handbook. The handbook also has details on how to ente...

Re: Can anybody explain this ??

The current tax bands are on the DVLA website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_172916 Pre-2001 cars have just two bands - above or below 1549cc - hence most MGFs are in the 205 quid band, whereas most of the manual transmission TFs will be in a lower I tax ...

Re: Rear Hydragas Suspension

Fairly slow - but it is the rear bias you describe that worries me. I do suspect that you've got the early signs of a failing rear hydragas sphere. Odd though, given the low miles.

Pumping up should give you some time, but I suspect that the ride height will fall again within the next 12 months.

Re: Rear Hydragas Suspension

How quickly has the car dropped Steviee? If over a week or two, then I would suspect that a hydragas sphere has failed, in which case pumping the system up is rather unlikely to cure the problem :( I have a pump - but am in North London, so not exactly local I'm afraid, but would be delighted to hel...

Re: MGTF LE500 laquer problem

That the wiring harness is essentially the same as the original MGR version is no real surprise. The whole build process on the Chinese TF is essentially identical to the British version - right down to the captive nuts that aren't used by anything under the centre console (I had a good look at the ...

Re: Coolant leak, well more of a gush!

Hate to say it, but this could be a head gasket problem - the elastomeric bead sometimes fails in this corner, leading to a fountain of water loss which pools near the driver's rear wheel: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/hgf_pages/HGF_images/leaking_HG.JPG A - shows the stream o...

Re: Electrics problem

The HU will usually receive a permanent live and a switched live, from the ignition. The former so that the radio presets etc are maintained, and the latter to bring the unit alive when the ignition is switched on. There is a possibility that there is a problem with one or other, or a poor earth; HU...

Re: Electrics problem

Would certainly be interested in the airbox, but IIRC, the bracket is also different? Regarding the HU - it powers up okay? Does it indicated that it is playing the CD? If so, and the lack of the courtesy lighting (do the door mirrors move okay and warm up?) it may indicate the problem is at the doo...

Re: Electrics problem

Do the other courtesy lights come on when a door is opened?

Is the switched live to the head unit live?

I wonder whether there has been some chaffing to the wiring loom behind the dash - certainly warrants further investigation!

I think that I have a couple of driver's side carpets in the spares collection. Neither are perfect, with small tears at the edges, but are intact in the heal board area... Available for a nominal contribution to the Project Shed build fund if anyone's interested? :)

Re: I can haz stiltz pleaz thx bai

Factory never specified a pressure, but rather a final trim height level. As it happens, this tends to correspond to around 380-400psi (assuming that the knuckles/hydragas spheres are as they left the factory, and not lowered by an enthusiast at a later date). 500 psi is perhaps a tad too much ;)

Adrian, you probably can confirm this, but the 500LEs were painted by hand at Longbridge, whereas all subsequent cars were imported, ready painted, from China?
