Re: Ignition key won't turn

It's interesting to compare the two cars - the MGF and the TF - in such similar colours! The TF was such a successful re-style, and the LE style bumper just took it that little bit further.

Its sad that no one has taken it on as a restoration project.

That said, I'll buy the column and EPAS gear if you are inclined to strip anything off it before it is weighed in.
If you need an EPAS column, drop me a message - I have a spare :)

Re: MGF project to go

I had no idea this car was still available! Shame - if nothing else, it would have been a great parts vehicle.

Sad that no one was able to take this car from you :( [Project Shed started from a base car that was far worse than this!]

Re: Battery went flat while driving - what's the problem?

Just an up-date on this thread - just in case this is of any use to someone in the future. The problem re-emerged - the charge light once again came on and failed to go out. This took some while to get around to repairing, but when I got down to it, I found yet more problems. Perhaps the most signif...

Re: Dipped beam behaviour

I've not encountered this one either - but may also be a sticky headlight relay? The column switches do seem to be extremely reliable in my experience.

Re: New Owner- Tyres

Keep with the standard tyre pressures (I typically run 28psi front and rear on an MGF - the TF is quite different). For tyres, the answer is what is your budget. I'd typically replace all four at the same time, and go for the best performance tyres you can find in the correct sizes. 185/55 R15 has b...

Re: Very strange issue, am I the only one?

I bet this is something simple - like a sticking idle air control valve. Intermittent misfires have to be very frequent for it to be registered as a "Malfunction Indication Lamp" activation - even with faulty coils (a really common cause for misfires and uneven engine running), it is almost impossib...

Probably makes more sense in the German market, where snow is much more likely than here in the UK... Of course, practically all new cars have this feature as standard...

Re: Brake Servo Change

Yes, definitely possible to do this - the master cylinder bolts to the servo, and the actuator rod from the pedal passes through the centre of the servo that needs disconnecting. The servo then bolts to the bulkhead via a bracket with four threaded bars. Thus, the hydraulic components are all separa...

Yes, it just stops rain from dropping directly on the motor, getting inside and flooding and corroding it.

Good result. The relay is in the relay block on the early cars, mounted on the back of the MEMS ECU bracket. :)

Re: Temperature gauge not working - diagnosis

Changing the gauge in the instrument cluster isn't too difficult either, if it comes down to that... Actually, another potential problem could be the loose printed circuit on the back of the instrument pack. If the instrument pack has been removed previously, it is possible to damage one of the copp...

Re: Dicky dipstick

The remote filler and dipstick are in two parts, there is a normal pipe coming from the engine block and this is connected into the plastic filler. It is quite possible that the parts have come adrift. with a screwdriver it is possible to remove the top of the filler and shine a light into it to se...
