4-11th July 2020 MG Weser Tour, Germany
The MG “river cruises” are becoming a tradition! With the Rhine and the Elbe done so far, there will be a successor in 2020 – down the Weser! For a whole week we will be driving through various regions, experiencing nature, culture, technology and decent food, and lots of fun together. This year’s h...

Varta Blue Dynamic D59. Have that in all my MGs. Works a treat, even after massive water ingress and power drain due to some shorts to the car electrics following the tornado episode last May.

Re: Have I got a VVC inlet manifold??
TFs all came with the alloy manifold, even the non-VVC ones. So the correct gasket kit would be the one sold as VVC, which comes with the correct inlet manifold gaskets – one between plenum and manifold, the other for the mating face on the cylinder head. As to the MIL coming on, this might have a p...

Re: Drilled thermostat
Charles, I have never understood why people are afraid of using the standard ’stats anyway. The cooling system is way oversized for our cars, basically in outside temperatures of below 15 degrees (British summer, haha!) even the heater matrix gives sufficient cooling with a stuck closed thermostat (...

Re: URGENT! Mk2 Alternator in Mk1 car ?
Thanks, Rob & James, that’s exactly how I did it yesterday. Just connected the brown-yellow wire to its equally coloured counterpart on a plug ripped out of an old ZR, and it works! Mind you, the main terminal bolt on a Mk2 alternator is bigger, though (M8 instead of M6) and the thick wire is a bit ...

Re: Won't start in the damp
The coils on a Mk1 VVC are one of the more awkward parts to get to. They are riveted to a carrier bracket which in turn is bolted to the engine block with two (iirc) M8 bolts. And they sit right beneath the coolant pipe, thermostat and its hoses, so one would think they’re easy to get to from undern...
