Re: F sounds like a beetle

Yes, this sounds more like a bearing. I was thinking cam belt tensioner - but you're right Richard, could be alternator etc couldn't it?

Re: Oh B****r!!!

Oh no! And to a 85LE too :( Getting the body work sorted shouldn't be a problem - someone rear ended my F resulting in not so dissimilar damage, which got repaired quite well back in 1997/98. The tricky bit may be getting hold of those 85LE stickers... Might be worth contacting Ian Pogson if you hav...

Re: Knobs to you

Steve's quite right - and we did a whole load of comparisons on this for MG World a number of years ago

The only thing I would add is that a number of aftermarket gear knobs will apparently shorten the lever because they don't screw on, but rather are a slot fit, fastened with a grub screw.

Brilliant Mykel - this is superb. :thumbsu:

Like you, I really like this modification simply because you wouldn't notice them unless the lights are on!

Can we see more pictures of the DTRLs? I think that the picture above slightly under-sells it.

Re: MGTF LE500 laquer problem

I do like the badge that Adrian has posted but to me the winged badge has always been the preserve of the Mini Cooper and I am not sure if there was ever any precedent in MG history for a similar shaped badge. Not in the style that was used, but there is a 'winged' MG badge of sorts - usually found...

Re: Sales advice needed please!

Definitely split - hard top and the registration plate will not add significantly to the sale price of the MG, but sold separately should net around 1k. The car itself? Low mileage will still sell, although for all the reasons mentioned above, people should really look to buy on condition rather tha...

Re: The Mk 7 !

Gas exit is certainly asymmetric - preferentially going to the offside pipe. Odd that it doesn't exit on the near side? Sound quality wise, first impressions from Art's footage is good. We'll have to wait to hear what this system sounds like from the inside, particularly at cruising speeds.

Re: Temperature sensors and Lamba Probes

Parts availability is usually very good, and cheap on the most part. Wouldn't necessarily advise using ebay - suppliers there are often over priced. Local scrap yard probably a better bet to be quite honest. It's always a gamble getting a 'cheap' car. Sometimes it'll pay off in spades. Sometimes not...

Re: Slam panel outer bolts - near headlight...

The bolts at either extreme of the panel screw into captive nuts in the support panel. These are on thin metal extensions... urgh... difficult to explain, I've attached a picture below: slam_panel_support.jpg If the bolt has seized, the bracket will readily distort, and ultimately will be sheared of...

Re: F sounds like a beetle

So it is in the exhaust system somewhere. Ive just had the back box replaced and it made no difference... so the problem is between the gasket and the block? If the back box has been replaced, it won't exclude the flexi-pipe as a cause of the exhaust leak (assuming that this is the cause of the noi...

Your Dad's old stuff was manufactured in the UK. You can probably guess where all your new tools are made ;)

Pretty annoyed that our most recent kettle blew its heater element little over 12 months from when we bought it. Talk about disposable society.

Re: Liquid levers, Pressure Hydragas pump, fittings help

I have a liquid levers pump, but unfortunately I don't have a UNF pitch guide to confirm the thread. Outer diameter of the hose is 1/4", so 3/8" ID is probably about right. The gauge you've ordered: http://i.ebayimg.com/08/!CBstrigBGk~$(KGrHqZ,!h4E0E50GkZnBNIuhLKM8Q~~0_1.JPG looks absolutely identic...

Different names, but the codes suggest that they're the same colour. Would be good to get that confirmed Adrian.

Re: A bit skitish...

The mention of new rear tyres made my ears prick up - as Adrian says, MGFs, being mid-engined, are sensitive to tyres - and often feel unsettled if new rear tyres are fitted with part-worns still on the front. More so if the fronts are a different brand/type to those fitted on the rear. Often the ty...

Warm idle should be around 750-800 rpm, so this sounds about right (what was the engine temperature when you re-checked the idle speed?)

Re: Temperature sensors and Lamba Probes

PS - Does sound as though your car has some work - good to hear about new pipes and clean coolant, but the lack of attention with the wiring and the replacement cam cover bolts makes one very nervous as to the quality of the work to the cylinder head gasket. Suck it and see I guess, but perhaps get ...

Re: Temperature sensors and Lamba Probes

So it was green with blue tracer? Sounds as though you've got it covered. Might be tricky getting hold of the parts to repair new, but second hand should only require a trip to your local breakers yard :)
