Re: TF tracking, take the correct settings with you.

two degrees??? A steering wheel that is not straight is one of my absolute bug bears. I absolutely HATE this. Luckily, it is not too difficult to re-set the steering position by re-adjusting the track rod positions with a bit of measurement and careful spannering. I have had to do this on a couple o...

Re: 2002 tf exhaust

All true - and if you look at http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/exhaust/TF_evc.htm you'll see that we tested a car on Dave Walker's rolling Road (Emerald, Northfolk), and found that whether the valve was open or closed, it made no difference whatsoever to performance other than to the volume of noise...

Re: MG TF "McLaren"?

I like the sticker, and having it under the final coat of lacquer means that it is much more durable - and probably why this was done by one of the previous owners.

A previous owner who presumably was a McLaren fan? Who knows, may be even a former McLaren employee???

Re: My car / Top Gear photoshoot!

Photo shoots are always fun - I really enjoyed taking my MGF along for an MG World photoshoot, and the experience was quite illuminating (and I am not just talking about photographic lighting!)

Have a brilliant day

Not a particularly comprehensive description, but it does give an idea on what is involved:

Re: Early Fog Lamp Switch.

It is easy to repair the old fog lamp switch. I've done this more than one. The problem is that inside the switch there are exposed copper contacts that oxidise over time. A bit of cleaning will restore their function. I sprayed some anticorrosion oil designed for electrical systems that appears to ...

Re: 2002 tf exhaust

Loads of folks made this mod in period - it makes for a more characterful exhaust note at all times. From memory, MG Rover deleted the system later - probably because it was more expensive than strictly needed to pass drive-by noise emissions tests needed for homologation. I am sure they found an ea...

Re: TF Headlight mountings

A sliding mount may make up for any variation in body dimensions, but I don't think that this is the reason for this design. The short answer is I don't know, but having glanced a tyre barrier at the Prescott Hill climb last year, the impact was relatively minor, but it broke the headlamp mounting t...

Re: MOT Emissions Fail

Looking at the data from the emissions test, and that it the lambda eventually comes into range, I think that this is your catalytic converter on its last legs and is now failing. The carbon monoxide is high, that can point to an inefficient burn, but the Lambda and hydrocarbons are normal, so this ...

Re: External ambient temperature.

The MGF had an official accessory to read outside temperature, that used lamps to tell you if it was freezing outside. It fitted into one of the centre console switch blanking panels. I don't think I have seen one in the wild though - only in an accessories catalogue (I can't find the picture curren...

Re: EPAS cuts out while manoeuvering

Good link suggestion there - it has everything I was going to suggest (particularly the "70 Amp" fuse holder). If you have a Pscan, you can also read the ECU fault codes and look to see what it is doing with live data, which may well give some additional helpful clues, but otherwise, the first step ...

Re: Nearside Outside Door Handle

It is - and yes, you're absolutely right - there is MASSIVE flex in both the bulkhead (such as it is on an M-type) and likely also in the chassis. Currently the car is in the garage on a nice flat floor. The gap is a bit too tight in one place, but it is not too far off... BTW if you ever need wire ...

Re: AP racing calipers under standard wheels without spacers... pure madness!

This has been a really slow burn project, but it is nearly there. :) With standard AP brakes, the caliper fouls the inside of the Abingdon style wheels badly - you need a massive spacer to get clearance. With the arrangement I have now, the caliper clears the Abingdon easily - and in fact, with a sm...

Re: TF Race Car Build

Good point regarding the box section: I'd forgotten about that! But every little helps I think, and seam welding sounds like a good plan (if a little awkward unless you've got the engine out?) Then cut out a section of he back of the boot behind the number plate area of the bumper and make a duct ou...

Re: SMS under seat wires and a dead MGF

The SRS system will not prevent the car from starting, so I suspect the non-starting is likely incidental and perhaps the most likely explanation is that the battery is flat?
