There is the cam belt and alternator belt, if the cam belt had snapped the engine would have cut out.

Is the car MEMS1.9 or MEMS3? If it is the latter you can plug in an OBD2 reader and check the coolant temp that the ECU is reading.
Other items that may have an effect are spark plugs and airfilter.

Frustrating but the dealer will have to help, you can still reject the car. To help try to identify the noise which model do you have? When you ring the dealer tell then you are not willing to drive the car so they will have to recover it or collect at their own risk. Don't worry, 99.9% of dealers w...

Kwikfit recharged the air con on my mk1 ZS, lasted better than when I took it to a "specialist".

It would be one heavy lump of metal that was rigid enough to take chrome plating and a bit OTT IMHO, how about thin steel colour coded to match your car.

I had a similar fail on my F a couple of years ago, turned out to be a small leak on the exhaust manifold gasket.
Also consider the airfilter.

The deflector fixings mount through the T-bar into the metal box underneath.
I've up graded my mk1 to a mk2 speaker T-bar, I found the O/E rear speakers, front speakers and mk2 tweeters combined with an underseat sub works well.

Re: New hardtop but missing connections
That wouldn't fit my soft top heated glass as the connections are at opposite ends.
I'm not sure how one would connect up without tabs, they are an intrigal part of the heater elements.

Does the glass have the tags on it?
If so it's easy to make this end, you just need the plug for the other.
Do you have the switch on the dash and the relay?
If not you can get them from ebay.

I recently fitted one to my '99 VVC, the worst bit was the time it takes to get the engine cover off (and I only need to do that as I couldn't work out where one of the vacuum hoses went while working from the boot), definite improvement in pick up etc.
It will fit all mk1 VVC's.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
If you take your current unit out it will either have standard ISO plugs on the back or an adaptor lead that plugs into the ISO plugs.
Any new unit will have an adaptor lead that plugs into the ISO plugs.

They do need topping up every couple of years.
Personally I use the aircon in my tintops most of the time as it clears condensation quicker when on hot.
