Arrival date of new MGTF?
Hi guys - we here in the West 'DOWNUNDER' feel a bit left 'out of the loop', so to speak - in regards to the new MGTF - do you know of any date of launch as yet. We heard that there maybe a delay? Cheers Peter.
Eat your heart out! My car is a MGTF 160 Coupe LE - Monogram Black Olive - one of 30 in the world.

Hi Peter.
Don't feel out of the loop - you're closer to China than we are mate.
There have been recent reports, on line and in the press: (1) the NAC/SAIC merger has slowed it all down a bit and (2) the Chinese are not happy with the quality of their locally produced components and are searching Europe for suppliers. Latest estimated release date that I've seen is now Spring 2008.
There is a regular Chinese news update and discussion over on http://forums.mg-rover.org/index.php which you may not have caught up with. Some of the comments are a bit fanatical but most is good. Head for General MG or Rover Related Chat to start.

I also understand that homologenisation is taking longer than expected, the cars are still at Millbrook being tested, dealerships may see cars in February.
As of two weeks ago about 40 cars had been completed.

Latest I have heard is that they will probably be launched at the end February, for the new registration number.

" Longbridge revival hit by delays
The long-awaited restarting of production at the former MG Rover car factory at Longbridge in the West Midlands has been delayed.
Nanjing Automobile Corporation, the Chinese carmaker that bought the assets of the defunct MG Rover business had intended to start selling the revamped MG TF sports car this autumn.
However, after problems with parts being shipped from China, the launch has been put back to next March. It is now hoped that cars will be produced in readiness for the March 1 registration plate change.
The company says it now intends to source some components from Europe after parts were damaged on the 6,200-mile journey from China. (The Times) "

I understand the windscreens were broken in transit, maybe other parts too.

Re: Arrival date of new MGTF?
NAC Pulled out of the MPH show , I've spoken to some potential franchisees who are frustratingly getting no response from Longbridge, there were some dire rumours going around at the Classic Car Show that SAIC were poised to take over NAC combining the Roewe75 and MG7 production and axe manufacturing at Longbridge as it is losing them large sums of money .
It's very hard to know exactly what is , or is not, happening at present. Things don't look too good again and the lack of any activity is worrying for us watching from our armchairs ,

Re: Arrival date of new MGTF?
During a lenghty discussion with 'a good friend in the know', production of the new TF should be mid-end February next year. Do not lose heart... Things are still moving in the right direction. A lot of stuff has been kept away from the media during the tie-up between NAC and SAIC and the contracts for the dealers are going out this week (yes, they haven't been signed yet...). But most of the the rumours are just that... Chinese whispers, if you'll excuse the pun.
