Has there ever been an MGF ski rack available ? To go all that way at the time of year and not think of taking my ski kit well.....

And I wouldn't think of going anywhere near there at that time of year without winter tyres, even at the low level of Geneva, 2 years ago i quite happily drove my little golf on winter tyres past a fancy Brit plate 4x4 which obviously wasn't with all wheels spinning just outisde the city. (the year before I'd hired a car from Venice (no winter tyres) and slid very nicely down the middle of a low level road with less than 3/4" of snow on the road - thankfully nothing was coming at us, but i gave myself and the occupants a hell of a scare). Lesson learnt.

Hi Dave

I guess the MG Bootrack could take ski's somehow

Totally agree with the need for winter tyres :thumbsu:

There is a MGF Ski Rack to fit on the Luggage Rack BUT you cannot fit the case at the same time.
We run winter tyres on both the MGF and Astra 1.8 however as main roads are kept clear, then they should not be needed on a quick trip however they are essential in most other areas.
15in wheels are required to fit snow chains. Carrying /using snow chains is Mandatory when specified on Snow covered roads.

Just wanted to let you know I am not interested in going any more - the lengthening of the run and the additional costs this will involve I am afraid puts the trip beyond my means.

In 2000 we flew down from Basel for the show and bought our MGF Steptronic which was announced at it.
For 2010 we joined the flotilla but drove thru the Alps for a week before returning.
Next year we tentatively planned to delay our February birthday trip and return via Geneve for a party. The initial enthusiasm on this thread seems to have died with no plans yet so like Dave we have changed our plans. The additional cost of taking the car, enroute 2 nights hotel plus Geneve Hotel is better spent on a Fly - Train Trip plus extra days in the Alps and a party with our Swiss friends.
Regular trips to the UK when we lived for 4 years in Basel and at least one ifnot 2 trips each year since we retired 13 years ago (skiing or MGCC CH Meets) means that we now prefer to take the easy way.
If you do go, enjoy it.
