PRIDE OF LONGBRIDGE RALLY - 18th April

Post by TimM » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:02 pm

I must admit I had my doubts that this was going ahead BUT I've just heard from the Austin Federation and YES it is running again for 2009. Pretty much a similar format as previous years so hopefully we can get lots of F/TFs to show support for the Rover Community Action Trust and the 6000 workers made redundant following the collapse of MGR in 2005. You may also get to meet some of the people that actually bui;t your car as the event always attracts lots of ex workers as well as some of the new Chinese owners from across the road.

SATURDAY 18th APRIL

Here is the itinerary ....

MORNING RALLY
Hopwood Services off J2 of M42 to Cofton Park, Longbridge
The Rover Community Action Trust invites all owners of Longbridge-made vehicles to meet at Cofton Park opposite the factory site.

11.00 ASSEMBLE AT HOPWOOD SERVICES: maps showing alternative routes to Cofton Park will be available from marshals
11.30 SET OFF FROM HOPWOOD TO COFTON PARK
12.30 ARRIVE AT COFTON PARK, gather as directed by marshals. Catering vans run by ex-MG Rover employees will be selling hot food and drinks on the park.

AFTERNOON FILM SHOW
St John the Baptist Church Hall on Longbridge Lane B31 4JT
(parking off Culmington Rd)
The Austin Federation invites you to join them to celebrate the Austin name.

2.00 Light refreshments available, raffle tickets on sale. A display of Austin memorabilia collected by Austin Federation members will be on show throughout the afternoon
2.30 FILM SHOW, Austin Through the Ages – from the Archives of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust
3.30 AGM of the Austin Federation, all car clubs and registers are welcome to join us
4.30 FINISH

We'll be there with the Gazebo, regalia etc as per usual so make sure you say hello !!

These pics are from last year's event....

Not sure if it is me, but I can't see a date for this?

Well worth going, I'll be there. Great to see such a mix of fabulous cars.

Unfortunately I shall be in Germany for this one so will have to skip it this year, shame as I enjoyed it last year (and found those fantastic badges! :))

Me too, a great gathering of cars the last two years. Don't forget it's a good opportunity too support us to and buy your MGF Register regalia (Elaine gets lonely if you don't and I wouldn't want to upset her :yeah: ) so be warned

Three weeks to go - Hopefully we'll get a good selection of Midlands cars on this one - I've made sure the ZR/ZS/ZT Register are aware as well so they can join us and all the other Longbridge built vehicles. All details as above.

Which route are you taking up John? I've already floated the idea of meeting up with Damien at Cherwell Valley services for the run in to Hopwood.

If anyone else is coming up from the South via M3/A34 would be happy to meet up. Just need to arrange timings. :thumbsu:

Hi John, funny you should mention Damien, we spoke only yesterday!, I would normally go via the M25 to M40 from Bexhill, but would be willing to divert to meet up with others, could meet you at the junction of M3 / M25?

Hi John,
Just looked at the map, looked at coming along M27 to M3, but too long, so will go M25/M40 and could meet you, and any one else at theWendlebury Interchange,M40/A34? :) approx time of arrival if i leave home at 07.00 should be 09.00, and then on to Hopwood Services.

John, I had a feeling that the M27/M3 may be a bit out of your way just as is the M3/M25 for us.

If you go M25/M40 as normal we could meet up with you and Damien at Cherwell Valley services which is just off J10 of the M40. This would make an ideal meeting spot for those coming from the South East and those of us coming from Hampshire/Dorset and places en route ready for the drive in to Hopwood. Its about three quarters of an hour from Cherwell to Hopwood Park so if we aim to leave Cherwell at around 0930 that should leave us plenty of time to allow for Saturday morning traffic.

Paula, if you want to meet up for the drive up, as there aren't too many stopping places on the M27 and M3 I guess the best place would be Rownhams services. Allowing for traffic and a departure time from Cherwell of 0930 we would probably be looking at a 0730 start. Let me know.

Stewart, where on the A34 is it best to collect you from?

Hi John
You missed a great day day at clymping, but to answer your posting, i understand from Tim and rest of 'F'ers' that cherwell is a regular meeting point, for the onward journey to Hopwood, so all is well for a meet up!, I will join Damien at J2 of the M40 and then we will catch up with rest of the crew at Cherwell.

Cherwell is our traditional meeting point for those travelling from the South.

If we meet up around 0930 aiming to get to Hopwood about 1030 - 1045. I sem to remember it takes about 40 minutes from Cherwell to Hopwood.
