Re: Replacing the rear bumper
Removing the nuts would definitely tighten it at least another 5mm.
Do you think the rubber sheet and glue you got could be used to thicken the vertical hood /window seal?

Re: Replacing the rear bumper
Just took this of Cath's car.
Do you mean where the white arrow is? If it is then we had the same problem.
The first fix was to cut a squash ball in half and put it inside the seal from behind.
Since I adjusted the ball & socket thingy this has closed up.
The problem we still have is arrowed red.
If removing the nuts and or the clips don't work I intend to cut a patch of rubber as shown in green (but a bit neater ) The glue I have brought is supposed to stick rubber to porous fabrics, so im going to make a cardboard template and tape to the seal and hood to see if it still lowers ok. If it does all well and good if not ill just glue it to the rubber

Spot on with the white arrow, got quite a large gap there..... but guess what, I have sprung a leak again on the drivers side wind cheetah and it's chucking it down
Put another bit of tube in and it isn't pouring in but it's not good......
I will have to try the squash ball trick
Cheers

There is a bit of adjustment in the window cheater, I guess you would have seen this post
http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=342852
That's the pain in the a**e with the windows, every time you a adjust something it throws it out somewhere else

Re: Replacing the rear bumper
Pain in the arse is an underestimation... I have seen that and have spent a few hours trying to get it right. It was dry, but decided to piss me off.....
Looking at that post again, the tube actually seems to be pushing up into the upper part of the seal, maybe I need to think about that also....

Re: Replacing the rear bumper
Its a bugger, and if you get a hard top the chances are you will have to do the windows again when you put that on.
We do
I keep telling Cath the only way I know to cure the leaking problem 100% is to move aboard where is doesn't rain and leave the bloody roof down
Then she points out we would have two hard tops which we wouldn't need

Re: Replacing the rear bumper
Sounds like a good idea, move abroad to avoid the rain my kind of thinking, flog the 2 hard tops to pay for a one way ticket
I am thinking of getting some replacement seals, some on eBay quite cheap at the moment.
We have no mg's in our local breakers or I would be round, full set of seals and a set of seals for the hood.
Just adding to the list of jobs, door bushes, volumetric sensor, heater resistor pack, bodywork, hood clean and treat, need a driver seat at least, maybe new carpets, new tyres before the mot, and a hard top before the winter....that's if nothing breaks in the mean time

A bit rich for me, although it is a very nice one, trying to pick one up more locally for around 150.

They are about, one was on here earlier on but that's in Scotland
If you find one with the headlining gone, don't let it put you off. Its easy and cheap to replace

This is the stuff I got in 3mm

I Haven't had the chance to do anything this week, but intend to fit the clips I got first, if still not happy ill fit the rubber.
The idea of getting the thicker rubber is to stop little finger poking through

Re: Replacing the rear bumper
I had to loosen the little arm on the passenger side as it seemed to pull in the vertical hood seal, creating a gap between the seal and the window....typical
