new mgf owner

Post by rangerblue » Tue Apr 28, 2015 9:20 am

Hi all i am new to the mgf scene having bought a 1.6 2001 mgf to restore. The question i have to ask is the 1.6 engine as prone to hgf as the 1.8 ? Also does anyone have a lolarm installed? Thanks

I had a LoLarm and unfortunately it proved unreliable. Eventually replaced it with the TF bottle using the LoLarm electrics.

I've also just brought a used TF tank with build in sensor for £24.50 from here...

HGFs are probably more common as a secondary failure due to loss of coolant or poor bleeding.
I would suggest that you have the belts (camshaft & altermator) and waterpump replaced, fit a quality B&G Alarm and ensure that it is vacuum filled..
If you do opt to change the HG then you will only have as good as you have now unless you also fit the strengthened oil rail.
If the car was built before March 2001, then if you take the head off, replace the head plastic dowels with steel.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Are you doing the work yourself or getting someone else to do it?
If buying out it is worth getting one of the mobile K series experts to do the work.

There are several, Russell, Mike at MJS, Dave Atkins etc.

I'm not sure which ones can be listed on this forum.
