high idle speed can you help please

Post by simcoxf » Sun Sep 14, 2008 8:10 pm

hi, i'm new to the mgf register only after buying my first mgf. It's a 2000 vvc model, however it's developed a problem where the idle speed sits at 2000 rpm constantly. anybody come across this before? thanks :?

 2000 RPM
Think I'd be looking for a big inlet manifold leak. Check all of the pipes going into the plenum and throttle body too. Maybe idle air bypass valve and might be worth doing the TPS reset proceedure.

Its not actually a TPS reset procedure, its an IACV (idle air control valve) reset. To carry it out you turn the key to position 2, fully press and release the accelerator pedal 5 times, turn off the ignition, and then start the car. You may find the engine stalls the first time you try and start, if so just try starting again.

Yes, Steve's right, sorry small brain spike.
Don't suppose its anything as simple as a tangled throttle cable. There should be a very small amount of slack in the cable where it attaches to the throttle quadrant. Is the quadrant returning to its stop properly.
