Highlander 2008

Post by Green Squirrel » Mon Oct 29, 2007 12:33 pm

I have just received a note from the Hotel that despite our having paid a sizable deposit they are putting up their room rates for the event - anyone else been so notified? :thumbsd:

Yes, I got my letter in the afternoon post telling me that next year's rates have gone up. However, I did note that in the letter that I got acknowledging receipt of my deposit, it said "Please note the rates may be increased by £2/£3 in 2008". Bearing this in mind, I suppose that it shouldn't come as any surprise, since the price of everything else goes up from year to year. Unfortunate, but not a lot I can do about it.

OK David - just found receipt from Hotel and yes it was on there as a PS which I confess I never took in.

I was just a wee bit surprised because as an ex Travel Agent there is absolutely no way that we would have ever taken a deposit and then put up rates later - in fact our trade association ABTA would never ever allowed that.

But there you go English law and Scottish law are two different animals and I shall not let a little thing like that spoil our trip.

Jonathan,

Everyone is welcome on the Highlander. The only thing that affects numbers is hotel accommodation. I think that the hotel that we are staying at has been full for some time, but check you never know there could be a cancellation (I think that it might be closed for a couple of weeks so keep trying) . If it is why don't you try and get a B&B, I know that one or two others have done this. Just keep in touch with me and let me know what's happening.

The original post on the old Forum has been archived, but here it is again -

OK, the fiery cross has been lit and its being sent across the country to tell everyone that the next Highland Gathering in 2008 will be held from Saturday 3rd May until Monday 5th May.

Nethy Bridge has been great over the last three years, but I think that we need a change of scenery. This will be the tenth Highlander and we’re going to go back to our roots. So, instead of going direct to the hotel we’ll do as we used to do and meet on the Saturday morning at Stirling and travel north together to Connel Ferry near Oban for dinner and our first overnight stay. Sunday, we’ll go for a Run as usual and return to Connel Ferry for dinner and our second overnight stay in the same hotel. Monday as usual we’ll go our separate ways. As you know, the hotel that we use must be able to accommodate over forty people and provide secure parking for all the cars, so after searching the area we’ve decided that the Saturday and Sunday nights will be spent at The Falls of Lora Hotel (website - http://www.fallsoflora.com e-mail - enquiries@fallsoflora.com and telephone 01631 710483). I’ve arranged for a small number of rooms to be reserved. However this is a very popular place and if you don’t book right away I can’t guarantee you a room on that particular holiday weekend. If you want to attend next year I would ask you to contact the hotel and book a room as soon as possible and thereafter let me know about it. There are various sizes of rooms at different bed and breakfast prices and if wanted I’ll see if a set menu can be provided at a standard price. I’ll leave where you stay on the Friday night up to you, but it would be nice to have a get together in the evening as in previous years to get things started. There is no great hurry to organise this and it can be arranged at a later time when we’ve got a better idea of numbers.

Nothing more remains to be said just now other than “See You There”.

Jonathan - I've just booked two double rooms at the Falls of Lora hotel and they said they had two left so if you book now you will be OK !.

That of course means that Me and Liz will be going along with fellow South Easters Rob & Elaine to add to Ian & lIz and Dave & Michelle who have been on the list for a long time !

At this rate we could add it to the South East list of Events !!

Unfortunately Jonathan you're still the 26th car - Ian & Liz Hunter have had to pull out. Regarding a B&B in the Stirling area, the Tourist Information Office number for advice is 01786 475019 or if you want to book over the phone use 0845 2255121. Any problems, just get in touch with me and I’ll try and help.

Glen Neilson posted this on the CSMGF website and has asked me to put it on here. If anyone is interested he can be reached at glenn.neilson@sky.com

Anyone fancy a Highlander 2008 T-Shirt?
I have some Thermal Paper that you use for making you own T-Shirts. This was left-over after making some T-Shirts for our wee yin.

The Thermal stuff will last on a T-Shirt for about a dozen washes or so before it starts to fade but can last way longer than that. Can go onto Black, White and light coloured T-Shirts.

If enough "Highlanders" that are going in May fancy one, I will run some off and forward onto you with instructions how to put onto your own T-Shirt. It's really easy.

Let me know who's interested.

Just to let you know that i would like a couple of the transfers to make a couple of T shirts for the Highlander 08 trip. I have tried the T shirt transfers before and yes they are very good. You could just send me the ark work via e-mail and will print out myself if you like?

Jonathan,

It's not me that's doing the t-shirt transfers it's Glen. You will need to contact him at the above e-mail address.

By the way did everybody receive my e-mail about the buffet of the Friday night and the lunch on the Saturday. I'm still waiting to hear from quite a few people on this matter.
