Big Bang Theory

Post by alistair » Tue Sep 03, 2013 1:25 pm

Lovely trip across Salisbury Plain yesterday - roof down in bright sunshine :D :D :D

Nearly home when there was a big bang, rear wheel lock up, and I came to a grinding halt! :o

Report from garage this morning - fan belt came off, wrapped around cam belt engine terminally damaged! :(

Cost of replacing engine equivalent to cost of buying another TF, but without the extras we have got on this one. Have bitten the bullet and given go ahead, but still crying in my beer.

May have car back for next BH meet :)

That's why so many are ending up in the hands of DIY owners.

It is quiet common, the alternator belt gets thrown through the bottom of the cam cover.

It is more common on the F/TF than other K series due to the exposed location of the engine close to the wheel and with no inner wing. The TF splash gaurd helps.
