New Hood

Post by alistair » Wed May 20, 2020 6:26 pm

Hi Guys

Looking for advice on buying a new hood for my TF.

At present I am torn between an OEM Mohair hood from Rimmers with glass screen, or similar from Prestige Hoods but looks as if it is a vinyl material.
Whilst the OEM is a known quantity (I hope) I am tempted by the Prestige version as it would be easier to keep clean (eg removing bird sh1t). Prestige claim it is the material used by top end convertables eg Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Bentley et al..
Does anybody have helpful advice on choosing which? It's a big expense and I don't want to get it wrong............................. :-?

I would ring Prestige to ask what their hoods are made of.

Is the old one damaged or just tired? I will be needing a 'new' hood on my BRG one this summer...

Thanks for the helpful replies.

After a chat with the reprobates of the 'South Coast Road Runners' in last night's virtual meeting I have gone with the consensus and ordered a replacement hood from BAS. They seem to have a very good reputation amongst you all and the clincher - they are £200 cheaper that Rimmers and Prestige!!

As usual - great help and sound advice from the MGF Register members. :thumbsu: 8-)

Keep safe

Alistair

PS: Charles - I will keep the old hood just in case it is any good to you. You seem very capable of making the proverbial silk purse out of a sow's ear.............!!! 😁
