RML Factory Tour - 18th January

Post by Rich Stone » Tue Oct 02, 2007 9:49 pm

We have arranged a tour of the RML Factory in Wellingborough on 18th January, 2008. Our tour starts at 3pm, but we will be meeting at The Priory on the A45 Wellingborough roundabout (click here for a map) at 2pm so we can have a short natter before the drive up to the factory. If anyone is travelling any distance, the Priory offer good food so you can have a meal beforehand.

Click here to learn more about RML and their association with MG. More details of the tour will be added to this thread as they become available, but I know they are planning a great presentation for us.

Numbers are restricted so SmS members will be given priority for places. However, if spaces are available, we'll be able to open the offer up for other guests.

Please add your name to the thread if you're interested.

Rich.

Still waiting... I think the team are abroad at the moment, as it's very quiet in their camp. I've sent another reminder though as it's getting close for those who'll need to book time off for it. Keep watching this space!

A bit of bad news and a bit of good... :(

I've just received the following email from Dan Shires of RML:
I haven’t been in touch because at this stage I haven’t been able to confirm the participation of Tommy Erdos and Mike Newton. To be honest without at least one of them taking part, it will be a vastly less in depth and shorter visit, as they are obviously far more knowledgeable about the chassis and the programme than I am. The other issue we face is that on November 16, the day you have suggested, all the staff, cars, and equipment from the Chevrolet programmme will be in Macau for the final WTCC race of the season – again this will mean that there will be a lot less to see, again making things a great deal less interesting and short!

Following Macau, the Chevrolet’s won’t be back until around Christmas due to the fact they are shipped back by sea from Asia, so at this stage I’d be re-inclined to possibly re-schedule to early in the New Year, as there will be a lot more to show you around.

I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to confirm anything yet, but I don’t want you and your members to go to the trouble of taking time off, coming all the way here, then there not being much for you to see or tell you about.
So it looks like we are better planning a visit for January. Is everyone happy with that?

Rich.

Just updated the original post with further details I've been sent... We have a provisional date but not a time just yet. We need to wait until nearer the time as the schedules of a couple of the 'key personnel' have to be confirmed. But you can now put 18th January in your diaries! :thumbsu:

New update for this morning... RML have now confirmed our date as 18th January, and we'll be starting the tour at 3pm. :thumbsu:

Nearer the day, we'll sort out a place to meet up about half an hour or so before heading up to their building. We'll probably meet at a nearby pub or something for a chat and to allow everyone to arrive in time.

Hi Rich

Something has come up which prevents me from going on the RML tour on January 18th :x . Will you please take my name of the list and give someone else a chance to go if the trip is over subscribed
Cheers
Dave

As we get closer to the tour, we still have spaces available. Therefore, we are open to more guests if anyone is interested. :thumbsu:

I received an email from Dan Shires of RML saying:
Hi Rich,

Everything is booked, and we’re looking forward to seeing you. I have lined up Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos as guest speakers, so fingers crossed it should be an enjoyable afternoon for you and your club colleagues!
Details of our meeting point have been added to the initial posting in this thread.

If you're interested in coming along and haven't got your name down, please post here...

Please, if poss, add my name to the list.
As I was at Le Mans 2007 seeing the MG Lola and getting very wet, I would love to see the factory.

Guys, the trip is a week today!

Just wanted to make sure everyone is still OK and has booked off work if necessary. We haven't had any new takers but you never know what may happen in the next 7 days... Spaces are still available!

Looking forward to it now!

Rich.

Hi Rich, yep I'm still ok for this one. Have a half day off work, so should have just about enough time to get the bus out of Oxford and then drive over to meet you for 2pm. If I'm late, I'll call you!

Hi Colin,

The postcode for the Priory, Wellingborough (meeting place) is NN8 2LF and the postcode for RML is NN8 6TY.

The tour will be approximately 2 hours. That's why it's starting at 3pm. They all want to go home at 5!!!!
