Insurance Quotes

Post by CAZ » Tue Jan 08, 2008 1:52 pm

Hi everyone (and Lee Pudney)

Lee kindly gave me a number for A Plan insurance (01908 271771) who specialise in MG cover, in the summer and when my insurance was due for renewal in December, I rang them. You are dealing with an individual here (not an automated help/insurance line/on-line service) and he (David I think) came back to me shortly afterwards with a quote which was £90 less than KwikFit Insurance, who I have been with for years. I was so impressed that I thought you might be too. You can get a quote on line, but it is far better talking to a human!

Thank you Lee for the recommendation. I keep meaning to say thank you when I see you, but keep forgetting!
Regards
Carol Findon (CAZ for short!)

Caz, Steve Marsh is from A Plan at Bletchley (the number you have) he is an enthusiast and a TF owner, he supports our events as a sponsor and is a really nice guy, I'm glad he gave you a good price, I stick with him every year.

I have been with Peter Best for years and never had to do a claim for anything, although Peter Best always a few pounds cheaper for me than A Plan i thought i would stick with them, loyalty you see  , someone reversed into my F last October, and dented rear wing badly i was not in car but lady driver admitted her fault}, i had permission from Peter Best to have work done as Her Ins ok'd it and work done back end of Oct, paid my £200 excess to Body shop which you can claim back,to date i have rand Peter Best 4 or 5 times to ask where my excess refund is only to be kept being told they will chase it up,Monday i lost it and said enough is enough, by end of day i had a call from some other company who deals with claims and says this is first time P Best has been in touch with them to retrieve my excess,an may take a couple more weeks yet Aggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh, come Sept when due for renewal guess who i will be going with?? I went with Lancaster through the MGOC because I had been with them when I pranged my MGB twice in the 90s and when I got my F I was unaware of A Plan. One was a lorry driver's fault and one was a prat who stopped halfway around the roundabout on the A5/A508 at MK because he got confused by the traffic lights. The car was repaired within days and because it was a classic car policy without a no claims bonus my premium was not affected :D

Last month was renewal time so I tried A Plan at Bletchley and they quoted me £180 more than Lancaster who kept last year's premium :D . Although the current Lancaster policy is still one without a no claims bonus I went back to them as my NCB is maintained by the company car policy. :D :D

Cheers

Have to say that when I changed my insurance last week, Peter Best came out the best for me, even with my whole list of mods! A Plan were only a little cheaper than what I had been quoted by Direct Line!

Well, with my LandRover insurance renewal date of 23rd December (wish i'd never bought a car at that time of year, with the annual bill 2 days before christmas!), I did my shopping round for insurance, and as it works out cheaper for me to lump the MGF onto the same policy, I tried APlan. Well, my renewal from last years cheapest which was MoreThan had gone up by almost £100 for no reason, and yet Steve sorted me out a bargain by coming up with a total price for them both at less than last years cost, and at least Steve lets me have all the mods I want!!! I did phone round a lot of the other insurers, and nobody even came close. Plus what is really nice, is you don't have to explain and list every mod, he said beyond the performance things i'd already told him about, as long as any of the other mods didn't change the performance, I could do what I like! Good job really, as work begins in a few weeks when I have booked a block of time off work to start on them all!

I think the main reasons for querky quotes was because of our household's car situation. I've just added a 'commuter' car (Ford Escort 1.6 Zetec Estate, ex-Dad's) to the collection and although we had a great deal with Direct Line having the MGF and Rover fully comp, sharing no claims protected, etc., adding the extra car meant they could not do a good deal on all together, the Escort being quoted at not much less than the F! So I swapped the F for the Escort to maintain the deal package and went to Peter Best for the 'F as they put MGs over three years old on a 'Classic' policy which doesn't require any no claims. Hence a wonderful price of £197 fully comp and with all mods (previous and undergoing) listed! I do have 5K limited mileage too, but that's the same as I've had for the past couple of years, since the 'F became a 'purely pleasure' vehicle... :thumbsu:

Does the annual mileage make a lot of difference to the premium then?
