Now back up and running with new head gasket and skimmed head it starts fine but after 4 or 5 miles starts missing badly , switch off and restart and its fine for a mile or two when it starts missing again. Sounds heat related. Have you replaced the ignition leads, dizzy cap etc?

Hi Nigel
I have changed the Coil pack, leads and plugs. Not sure if i put a new cap on as it was a while back when the engine was done but will check. Also cleaned fuel tank out put in fresh fuel new pump and fuel filter.

Hi James
I had a mate plug in a snap-on code reader but he only checked it when not missing, so nothing showed up. He probably should have come with me for a run with it plugged in if thats possible . I will try him again.
Cheers Fogyfog

Well nothing showing up when laptop plugged in while driving, even when car is missing And distributor cap looks new so will try replacing crank sensor and go from there !
Re: Car missing after 4/5 miles
Hi there
Decided not to replace crank sensor , after checking dizzy cap ( which looked fine ) and cleaning rotor arm which was a bit black and dirty it drove ok for about 16 miles before starting to miss.Put on a new cap and rotor arm yesterday only to see the centre spring loaded carbon had broken up and i was running on the spring ,so after fitting new parts car is running great , smoother and more power. So the centre carbon must have been faulty due to the car being stored for 11 years. Dont know why the fault would go away after switching off then on though.Fingers crossed it stays as it is .
Thanks for all your help George
