Crying... Hgf so to fix or not?

Well found my wife's beloved beryl holding up the traffic with her hazards flashing on the busiest roundabout in wisbech yesterday. Trip to local friendly garage who has seen it more than me (my wife likes breaking it) to find major mayo in the oil. Now the question is do we fix it or not it's a 98 r but really is a beauty and wife adamant she wants it fixed ... What do you guys think

FIX-IT

All us guys who know who really is the BOSS at home, know that what the other half says goes

Get a quote from your local garage then try Russell from Mg Rover solutions, I have not used him myself but he is very well thought of on this site (he is mobile)

If the car is in good shape otherwise I'd get it fixed. However I'd get several quotes first including the likes of MJS and MG solutions and present these to the driver so she knows how much she is spending.

Please fix it! Summer is just around the corner and there's no better car to enjoy that with. Also, get the low level coolant alarm from B&G and that'll go a long way to preventing a repeat occurance

The low level alarm wont stop HGF if you get a rapid loss of coolant from a split hose.

I didn't say it would- however it does give you enough advanced warning that you can stop the car before catastrophic failure occurs. With rapid coolant loss you've got seconds to stop the engine to avoid HGF, and that's what the coolant alarm gives you.

Better to spend £100 on the alarm than £400+ repairing the gasket

you'll be in the good books for at least one weekend and you won't find a good MGF for the price of a HG repair

Thanks all and you are all right. She is already at the "clinic" being sorted as the mgf is a real beauty and would have been a shame to let her go, besides the boss wasn't interested in any other motors and better the devil you know I guess, and will be all ok for the summer fun.

Nigelandjo hi guys we took our mgf to Burnham on Sea from Norfolk only a few weeks ago, stayed at the clarence, one of my old stomping grounds... Some things never change
