Anglia Summer Picnic - 28 June 2009

The Anglia Summer Picnic is being held on Sunday 28th June at Hatfield House in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
The Jacobean house is the home of the Marquis of Salisbury and of the Cecil family for 400 years. It stands in its own 1000-acre Great Park. The State Rooms have a fine collection of paintings, exquisite furniture, fine tapestries and historic armour. Superb examples of Jacobean craftsmanship, such as the Grand Staircase, can be seen throughout the house.
The gardens are both beautiful and extensive and contain the surviving wing of the Royal Palace of Hatfield where Elizabeth 1 spent much of her childhood. The gardens date from 1611 when John Tradescant the Elder laid them out using trees, plants and bulbs brought back from his travels around Europe. The gardens include orchards, elaborate fountains, water parterres, terraces, herb gardens and a foot maze. West of the house there are herb, knot and wilderness areas. The National Collection of model soldiers is on display here too.
The Anglia Summer Picnic will have an exclusive parking/picnic area for member’s use, with entry from 11.30. While there is a restaurant you are invited to bring your own picnic.
21 miles North of London – M25 junction 23, seven miles A1 (M) junction 4, two miles. Signed off A414 & A1000. The House is opposite Hatfield railway station.
Admission to House, Park and Grounds is at a special rate of £9.50 for Adults and £5.00 for Children between 5 and 15.
