September monthly meet - postponed
I am toying with the idea of setting up a new monthly mid week evening meet near the middle of the region. Would anyone be interested in this?
I was thinking of a Thursday evening meet in a pub near Thetford (as it is near the centre of the region).
This place caught my interest: http://www.tabletable.co.uk/ourRestaurants/The_Warrener/. Has anyone been there before?
It would be useful to gauge if there would be any interest in this, so let me know what you think.
Perhaps we could have a Sunday meet first to check it out? I know of some great roads on the Cambs side of Thetford, not to mentionthe forest itself.
Cheers
Jon

Re: New monthly meet
Hi Jon
You don't seem to have had many replies yet so ...
Thetford is a bit far for people like me from the Herts area that got absorbed in to East Anglia last year. Evening meets are probably out but weekends are always a possibility - after all I've done weekends to Monaco, Angouleme, Highlander, Alpe d'Huez, Mechelen etc.
Actually I've just noticed that Herts isn't in the coverage list on the Regional Forums page for any section so maybe we just don't exist anymore? Several of us were at the Kempenrit last weekend so maybe we will make the Hotel Ve our monthly meeting point.

Hotel Ve - Belgium? Anything to get the new TF run in John! As much as I loved the Ve, it's a bit far.John Ponting wrote:Hi Jon

Regrettably both Soo & Sean has had to step down from the Regional Reps role this summer due to personal commitments which left me covering the area which was just too big to manage. Being club Treasurer, studying part time, being expected to manage an under-resourced team at work (and deliver the same output) and cover 5 counties in the region just doesn't add up Not enough hours in the day (is there a violin smilie?). Hence slimming it back to the original EAMGF region, and the idea for a new regular meet which doesn't require much organisational flair - just good people and a good time . Rich, from South Mids, has picked up the Beds region, but we are still looking for a solution for Herts. If you want to help in any way out drop me a PM.
I was thinking about it driving home in the dark tonight that, as Winter is getting closer, Sunday meets maybe better than weekday evenings anyway.
Pleased to hear you may be interested
Cheers
Jon

This last weekend in AUgust is my birthday & it looks like I'm treating the family to Sunday lunch.
Lyn & I will be in Holland for 20th September.

Hey Jon
Now i've rejoined the TF clan I may look to join up with you guys on one of your Sunday meets. If this 'TableTable' place in Thetford is anything like the one up by the showground in Norwich - it'll be pretty swish. The food choices at the one near Norwich are decent enough - though never had their sunday lunch. BTW, is that where 'The Chase' used to be - its been ions since I've visited Thetford.
Am I right in thinking you were studying CIPFA - if so, hope it's going well

Re: New monthly meet
Oh, sounds like it could be good then. I haven't been before, but it seems like a good location and the website does look good. If it turns out not to be up to scratch I do know a couple of good pub / resturants not far up the road that we could retreat to.
I was thinking of pencilling in Sunday 27th Sept, but I need to make sure nothing is already planned as it is Mums bday on the 30th.
Yep CIPFA is going very very slowly Susan. I passed the 'Financial & Performance Reporting - UK Standards' module in June (horrible paper ) but still have loads more to go it seems. Quite pleased I passed it, as I think it is now changing to International standards. I did a paper, using International standards 2 years ago, but I can't remember a lot of them
By the way.... what was / is The Chase?

Jon
Historically, Thetford Chase was a forest area that has reduced in size and is more normally known as Thetford Forest. It is still signed.
Modernly, The Chase is/was a Hungry Horse chain Eatery.

Re: New monthly meet
Jon,
I'd be up for this if it was a W/E meet.
With being away working in Corby there would be no way I could make a mid-week meet.

Re: New monthly meet
As Jon said - if memory serves me correctly this venue used to be called 'The Chase', was then renamed 'The Hungry Horse". Not sure if 'TableTable' has bought out all the 'Hungry Horse' venues - but the one near the showground was completely refitted and is now quite swish.John Ponting wrote:Jon

Re: New monthly meet
Right, still waiting on confirmation that I am free that weekend, but if you want to pencil it in your diaries I suggest Sunday 27th September. Meet up about 12:00 ish.

Re: New monthly meet
Phoned up this evening to book a large table for 12:30 onwards.
The venue details are:
The Warrener
Lynn-Wood,
Brandon Road,
Thetford,
Norfolk,
IP24 3PG
If anyone is interested in a convoy from my side of town I will be at the BP / Little Chef services at Ely at 11:00 for a 11:15 depart. I will try and plan some nice country roads (and traffic free) for the journey.
Click here for map for the services.
It would be great if you could confirm attendance.
Cheers
Jon

Re: New monthly meet
Well I think that due to the lack of interest it is best to postpone this to another weekend.
I am busy for the next few weekends, annual Duxford MGOC run and am wearing my FReg treasurer hat for a Committee meeting and MGCC AGM. Don't forget that there is the Greene King run in Bury St Edmunds on 24th.
So how about Sunday 01/11/09? Same venue.
Cheers
