Any enthusiast in the Peterborough area.
Hi All
Just picked up a 1995 model in BRG. Overall I'm happy with the car but there are things to be done. I am not happy with the rear ride height and it has 18" TF wheels fitted. The rear arches are almost touching the tyre, I suspect a re-gas is required. Is there anyone in Peterborough that can do this, there is no one listed on the re-gas register? Local knowledge anyone?
Anyone in the local area with knowledge of these cars fancy a brew and a look over the car for me?
Regards
Jon

Hi Jon
I live locally (near Ramsey) but I am just an enthusiast not a mechanic.
Next Sunday at Ferry Meadows there is the BMC/BL rally with auto Jumble and I know there will be several MG's there, mine included. It's only £3.50 to get in.
See the website http://www.bmcblrally.co.uk/1.html you may well see more qualified people there to give your car a look over.
Hope this helps

Hi Ian
I am between Farcet and Ramsey. Just travelling down to Somerset for a family break today and not back till late next Sun so will miss the event. Details of the guy near Ely would be great. I'm happy to travel if it's good service etc.
perhaps catch up for a brew some time soon as an enthusiastic eye may have more of an idea how things should look.
regards

Re: Any enthusiast in the Peterborough area.
Hi Jon, and welcome to the F Register
I don't know of anywhere in Peterborough that does any hydragas pump ups. Marshalls would be a good place to start, as an Xpart service centre, but there are probably some cheaper alternatives about.
Definitely worth checking out Stan Smith in Sutton, he is very knowledgeable about MG's and recommended by many owners. I used to live in Peterborough and it was worth making the journey to see Stan. The extra cost in petrol is saved by not having to pay stealership prices. Give him a call and I am sure that he will be more than happy to provide the pump up and have a general look over the car.
Stan now has 2 premises, but you want the one in Pound Lane, opposite the rear of the curry house. Click on this link for full details and map.
15 and 16 inch wheels were standard on the F & TF. Quite a few people have upgraded to aftermarket 17 inch wheels without much problem (assuming tyre depth is reduced so standing radius is the same), but I have only heard of a couple of people on 18 inch rims, so this could contribute to the clearance problem. Lack of hydragas is a quite likely culprit for a drop in ride height, but something to consider is whether the car has been lowered by other means. It is possible that it has been fitted with lowering pins to reduce the ride height (See here for more info). Getting the system pumped up to approximately 400psi is recommended for both normal and lowered F's.
Hope this helps

Re: Any enthusiast in the Peterborough area.
Thanks for that Jon. I'll look him up and pay a visit to get his opinion on the car and the ride height. Hopefully that is all that is needed to sort the problem. I am on holiday this week so the car is secured and away, I will measure the wheels correctly but they looked like 18" at the time. I also think that they are 4 pot AP Racing callipers not 2 pot as I originally stated. I shall measure everything up properly when I get home and update my posts.

I'm in Peterborough too. There's an MG specialist in Morton between Peterborough and Bourne that does pump up. Also the MGOC HQ at Swavesey will pump the suspension.
