Guided busway
So.... it finally got built in Cambridgeshire.
The mad idea to put buses on tracks that used to be railway lines
Has anyone been on it as yet?
If, and when, I get some time I will take the old pushbike for a spin as the tarmac looks super smooth
I drove past the other week, and took some photos:

Re: Guided busway
We have guided buses in Cawley but they only have short stretches of "track".
and I do know of a bus track that runs between Greenwich and Dartford but that is basically just a road that is only accesable by buses.

Good to know that we are not the only place to have them, so we are not going mad in the Fenstalkingcars wrote:We have guided buses in Cawley but they only have short stretches of "track".

They currently run between Cambridge and St Ives, but I think there are plans to have it run as far as Peterborough - which would be about 30 miles of track.
The advantage over the trains is that they can transfer onto the road once they reach the cities. That is a real bonus in Cambridge as the train station is far out of town, which was a PITA when I lived there in my student days.

They have then in Perth, Western Australia and as that is a three day drive away, they can keep them over there.

Except that most of it was abandoned (thank god) and it was originally intended to be a tramway! To build it would have meant destroying miles of fantastic pedestrian and cycle tracks through the Woolwich and Thamesmead areas as well as tearing up some beautiful gardens and wildlife areas.
One battle I am pleased to say we residents won
Re: Guided busway
I discovered the busway this Summer when I left my MGF at the MGOC Workshop for checking out.
It stops at Swavesey, right outside the MGOC headquarters. So if visiting you can get the bus to Cambridge or St.Ives, to lose a few hours.
Very regular service, every 10-15 mins or so, and reasonable price. You get a ticket on the platform machine before getting on the bus.
Bit like park and ride.
