AutoGlym factory tour

Post by Scarlet Fever » Mon Jun 11, 2012 7:44 pm

Emma & I visited the AutoGlym factory today for a tour of the facilities - and fascinating it was too. :)

We were doing a reccy really, seeing what a tour could be like, if it would be interesting & trying to see if it would be possible to do a proper rally there - well, it seems to tick all the boxes, they were very accommodating and the tour was excellent, plus they have a professional valet bay where they train valeters / do product demos and this could be made available to us too. :thumbsu:

Pros:
Factory is in Letchworth (practically on Brown and Gammons doorstep)
Lots to see, Factory tour we had today followed the products from mixing / batching through to packaging and dispatch. Also we had a guided tour around their R&D lab (which includes the competitions' products, they buy them all in and test them to ensure that their stuff remains ahead of the game).
Valet bay, professional demonstrations, plus hands on tutelage.

Cons:
Would need to be a weekday (not much to see of a weekend)
Numbers are limited (15-20 people tops) - this is for a few reasons, but the top one is ensuring that everyone gets to see everything.

So, my next step is to gauge interest - starting with you guys, opening it up to the F Register if we struggle to fill the spaces (which is likely i think given the weekday issue) & then maybe the Anglia region and/or the Two-Sixties after that. Whaddya reckon? Sound like a good idea?

Depending on where we are with little Luke, I would like to come to this. If I don't have work or appointments then I would love to see it. Thursday would be best for me at the moment.

Have we a date for this yet? I need to get it into the diary so I don't accept work. I am going back to work in mid September/October for two days a week.

Can't set a date without the numbers - it's a bit of an odd one this - in order to determine if it is viable or not i need to give them (reasonably) firm numbers. With this they can they give me a selection of dates that fits in around their work (no point in going if for instance, there is no one available to show us around, or the valet bay is booked out for a training session) - we need to fit in around their diary (unless we set it a long way into the future).

About half way there on the numbers, anyone else interested?

I've been to a valet demo with the Rover 75/MG ZT and the Citroen C4 clubs, really interesting. They gave us a slide show presentation then did a demo on one of the cars

UPDATE

Date for factory tour - Wednesday 17th October

Time, not set yet. Am thinking of gathering at Birchanger Services (junction 8 of M11) & then a short rally to the place. They have an on site bistro/cafe where we can buy lunch or we could go to a pub, got a few more people interested at the ER meet on Thursday, will update the list shortly.

Had this in from AutoGlym:
We are preparing for your visit and looking forward to having you.

Numbers wise, we don’t mind how many or few of you there are, in some ways the less people the better as there are more opportunities for hands on involvement. Provided we don’t exceed 15 people that will be fine.

Arriving at 10:30am works for us, we had planned to arrange a buffet lunch for you on that day and we always find that people are more keen in the morning to get stuck in.

If one of you have a vehicle that we could work on then that would also make the day more tailored to you as MG owners. It’s not a challenge to find the most run down dog tired MG you can lay your hands on, but if there was a vehicle that could be taken through the ‘works’ then you can see how we transform a car with a handful of products and the right application methods.
Sounds good to me, not sure how we decide whose car gets a professional valet, but it should be one of you, not me i think and i wonder if even they will be able to get Mark's or Kier's cars any shinier... ;) Maybe run a competition on the day? Would be good if the winning car wasn't spotless when it arrived, but by the same token a shed is unlikely to go down very well! :D

Not worked out a rally route yet, but i suppose if we meet at Birchanger Services at say 9am, this gives us an hour and a half to get there and i'm sure i can put something together. :)

Please add Michael and Chris (son) to the list, Marion not keen to lean about polishing and valeting, but me and Chris are looking forward to it.

Dave's car has some amazing scratches in the laquer, I'd love to see them remove those and play with that paint.

Think that with all that's been going on with her this year Nicole should get the demonstration slot, although i agree, it'd be good to see what they do with Dave's paintwork :)

Thanks Bill

----------

Mark, are you and your dad on the list twice?

Got next week off, going to put the rally together :)
