90th Anniversary of the ACE

The committee of the MGCC (Devon & Cornwall Centre ), has great pleasure to invite proud owners of classic vehicles, to take part in this the 18th running of the commemoration event known as the ACE RUN. The original, pictured above, from the glory days of steam, ran from Waterloo to numerous destinations along the Westcountry coastline and was christened the Atlantic Coast Express. This was the Southern Railway’s answer to GWR’s “Cornish Riviera” and very soon became much more popular with holiday makers, so much so that in peak season, 5 different trains carrying ACE name boards were leaving Waterloo between 10.20 and 11am for 9 separate destinations.

The service was in operation from 1926 to 1964 when it was axed along with a great many more, partly due to the popularity of the motor car. So with this in mind, to once more pay homage to a bygone age, a special anniversary ACE RUN will take place as usual on Fathers Day 19th June 2016 leaving from Okehampton Railway Station. With the emphasis on Steam and proximity to the original trackbed, the planned route will visit Launceston Steam Railway and Bodmin & Wenford Railway together with views of the Atlantic ocean.

This early notice is to whet the appetite of regular ACErs and first timers, who will be pleased to know that the projected cost is expected to be no more than £15 per car.

There will be more info to follow, but if you are interested please contact Terry Bolt asap, on 01579 383497, 07432103223, terry@terrybolt.plus.com because entry will be limited to the first 90 cars in keeping with the 90 years.

LATEST UPDATE ON THE ACE RUN

90th Anniversary of the ACE (Updated)

The committee of the MGCC (Devon & Cornwall Centre ), has great pleasure to invite proud owners of *classic vehicles, to take part in this the 18th running of the commemoration event known as the ACE RUN.

ACE 2016 Update

Best laid plans have come to fruition, following a meeting with the Controller at Bodmin & Wenford Railway. This will be the end of the line on Sunday 19th June 2016 when, after a short stroll from the town car park, participants will gain entry to the “Heritage Transport Festival”, collect a gift-wrapped cream tea and climb aboard a STEAM TRAIN proudly bearing an ATLANTIC COAST EXPRESS nameboard, for an hours journey.

All of this for an amazing £10pp when the train trip alone is normally £12.00. Your entry form already includes 2 cream teas within the £25 total, so there is an optional chance to round off this Anniversary event with a nostalgic ride, costing just £5pp bringing a grand total of £35.00 for 2 persons in a car for the whole package.

Many of you have returned your entries with payment of £25, and while it is more convenient to receive the additional payment before the event, I do understand if I have to collect on the day. I would encourage those who have not quite decided yet, to be aware that 50% of places are already booked.

* Clarification of Conditions of entry: Open to MG models of any age plus all other marques first registered on or before 1972, or at the discretion of the organisers.

There will be more info to follow, but if you are interested please contact Terry Bolt asap, on 01579 383497, 07432103223, terry@terrybolt.plus.com because entry will be limited to the first 90 cars in keeping with the 90 years.
