wheels

Post by Saksia » Fri Aug 24, 2012 2:29 pm

Hi there, new to mgf's and this site, so I hope I am in the right place. I have just purchased an MGF1.8 1999 bright red with cream and red seats. It looks a gem and it is my retirement gift to me. I am finding that the steering 'veres/moves' to the left when driving. Does this mean that I need to get the wheels balanced? Do I have to use a specialist garage? Your advice would be appreciated.

Probably means it needs the tracking doing. Is a garage/tyre fitting job really.
Front track is about £35ish or a full 4 wheel track is about £70ish.

And before getting the tracking done, make sure that the hydragas suspension is at the correct height - especially if the car is new to you.

If it needs pumping up, this really is more of a dealer job or garage or enthusiast-who-owns-a-hydragas pump type job.

REALLY? I got mine done last Friday, front and rear for a total of £20!!! now I know it was getting done on the side but I never thought it would be £70. I had a figure of £40 max in my head. The guy even took me through the whole process when he was doing it and explained all the adjustments he made so I know it was done right, looks like I got a bargain then :D

BTW I have never paid more than £20 for getting my suspension blown up either and that is legit although I do get a loyalty discount but I read on another MG forum that someone paid £80+ from MIKE SATUR!!!

I sure am glad I stay in the North!

Well I was basing the figures on the complete setup of my Vectra and it did include camber adjustment. Is like anything I guess and prices differ massively.

Paid £54 a couple of weeks ago for 4 wheel laser alignment which included 10% discount.

Depending where you are in the North West, I can help with a suspension pump.
