Calling ALL North West Owners - Caffnback?

Post by richandpaula » Tue Oct 01, 2013 8:58 am

Ok, I hear you thinking - "What's a Caffnback?"

Well, instead of going to a pub...a CaffnBack is were you go to a caff and back!

This Sunday 6th Oct is when we are going to a good cafe called the Ponderosa in North Wales, amid some great roads (Horseshoe Pass, etc) and spectacular scenery.

For those that attended the Oulton park run, I remember you said about organizing something for us North West F/TF owners...

I was thinking of going through Frodsham and Helsby then driving down Queensferry to Hawarden way and taking the back (twisty) roads through the trees rather than the motorway before crossing the Llandegla moors and turning left at the roundabout with the cider farm to make our way up to the Ponderosa cafe, before dropping down the horseshoe pass into Llangollen. :drive: Might even try and find the country park (think it's called Ty Mar?) with the perilous walk across the aquaduct before heading home along the same route in reverse and stopping to pick up some cider

If anyone's interested please put your name down here, would be good to see you.

Not too far away from the Evo Triangle as well, worth a cruise around.

Hi Dave & Carole,
Great news, we'd be very happy if you could make it along.

I have to admit, it wasn't really my idea for the run but it's going to be very informal with no real "you must be here at this time" arrangements - just like minded MG owners meeting up for a cuppa and a natter at the Ponderosa and it's still being discussed over on another forum here:

http://www.the-t-bar.com/en/forum/68-th ... -kaffenbak

The time mentioned is Mid Morning until afternoon and it would be good to see you on Sunday if you come along.
Please come over and say "Hi".
Where abouts are you from?

Best Regards,
Rich

Hi Ian,
Please forgive me, I'm shocking with names but yours rings a bell - are you a builder by any chance?
You'll be more than welcome to come along, we could meet up and start a convoy to the Ponderosa if you fancy it?
i'll post details of a start time and meeting place soon when it's agreed.

Hopefully see you soon,
Rich

Morning Dave,
Great news!
Will be good to see you and Carole on Sunday.

I'm quite looking forward to our little convoy now, we might be picking others up on the way too - more details to follow!

Rich

Update:
My guesstimates last night could work out to be correct!
We are looking to meet up with members of the WCMGOC on route at 9:30(ish) @ Broughton Tesco / McDonalds car park(Chester CH4 0DR) with chance for a quick coffee if needed.
As this day is Helsbymans idea, we'll follow his lot up to the Ponderosa from here through the back roads.

I'm looking forward to it now, both the weather and timing seems to be on our side on this run and it should be a good turn out - i might even have to wash the TF on Saturday now!

To Recap:
Here's the plan for meet up points:

9:00(ish) for anyone meeting @ Rugby Stadium (Widnes WA8 7DZ)

9:30(ish) for anyone meeting @ Broughton Tesco (Chester CH4 0DR)

10:30(ish) for anyone meeting @ the Ponderosa Cafe (Llangollen LL20 8DR)

I hope we can have a nice convoy this time instead of everyone blasting off at top speed and us all being spread out along the road with random cars in between and some not knowing the way...If this does happen, can the leader please pull over in a suitable layby and wait for others to regroup! (Hmm, Anyone got a pair of "Walkie Talkies" for the lead and tail cars?).

Hi Rich,

We'll put the MGBs at the front of the convoy but not sure if you TF boys will keep up! ;)

Seriously, I will be in my 1966 MGB GT so won't be pushing it as I would have done in the TF, but I will print off directions on Google for us when I get home from this Russian concentration camp here on Sakhalin Island.

There are a few junctions and roundabouts on the route I plan to use where we may get a few interlopers, but hopefully we can maintain a convoy within reasonable speeds and there are a few 30/40mph sections where we can regroup.

I am tempted to ask Graham Walker for my TF back again (took it in as part of our trade in when the tax expired at the end of August) and since MG don't appear to be in a hurry to deliver our new MG3 technically I still own the TF! Still, be nice to take the old girl out for a run, though, the exhaust note is always a bonus even if the wire wheels and 47 year old engine mean it doesn't go anywhere too fast!

Brilliant Martin,
What with your organizational skills and my enthusiasm for rounding up the troupes, (Ok, posting this on 3 forums has turned into a bit of a logistical nightmare - but still - that's half the fun!) this should turn out to be a very successful day out. Really looking forward to seeing and hearing your 'old girl' on Sunday along with everyone's cars...As for what you are doing on a Russian concentration camp on Sakhalin Island...I won't ask!!

As for what you are doing on a Russian concentration camp on Sakhalin Island...earning money to pay for the MG addiction! :)
