Easter Mon - Donnington MGCC race meet big MG gathering!

Post by colintf » Sun Feb 17, 2008 5:32 pm

I know Paul and Hollie are going, as well as Nigel and Jo and myself.

there is going to be a huge modern MG gathering here, to support the 2 school prepared MG ZS's in their first MGCC race.

MGCC is sorting out cheap tickts for us (I expect something in Safety Fast when its out in 2 weeks time) as well as a parking area for us!

Come and join the fun day out - F/Tf's will be racing as well - Donnington is a cracking circuit as well!

Maybe we could all convoy up from down this way?

I've copied pauls's original post below for more info : -

Re: Joint Multi forum meet Supporting Lunar Racings ZS 180s

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

we're grateful for your patience on this, there have been lots of background things going on to get the value of the package up as high as possible. Also, Easter Monday is the 75th anniversary of the first ever race at Donington Park - and guess what - it was won by an MG!!! Actually a supercharged 750cc MG C Type 'Monthlery Midget'. The actual car itself is believed to still exist but so far as we know today is in the Far East, however we are trying very hard to locate a similar car suitable for both display and running on the track - more about this later!

The ticket offer is now available at http://www.mgcc.co.uk click on Shop and inside the shop click on 'Event Tickets' and you will see the Donington tickets for sale there. During tomorrow we will add a linked news item on the home page. The offer is:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of MG winning the first ever race at Donington Park, we’re offering a special price on admission for club members and members of MG forums of just £12 for admission and a programme (normally £15 on the gate) with extra tickets just £10 (£12 on the gate). There is no charge for the credit card transaction (Donington charges an 8% fee) and no charge for postage (Donington charges £2.50 fee). Ticket buyers will get:

* Priority parking in the dedicated MG parking area alongside the MGCC marquee (very useful if it rains!)
* Free paddock access
* Exclusive access to the Paddock Welcome Centre to attend the driver's awards after each race
* £5 off annual membership of the MG Car Club if purchased on the day
* FREE circuit tour at lunchtime (limited numbers, reserve your place at the MGCC stand on the day, priority to MGCC members, bring your membership card!)

The lunchtime circuit tour will be led away by a 1933 MG C Type of the same design as the one which won the very first race here 75 years ago, so get ready for the scream of the supercharger and the acrid smell of Methanol and Castrol R!

Advance applications must close on the 13th of March in order to get your tickets out to you on time. Your order will be acknowledged by email and the tickets posted out by the 15th of March.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are welcome to post this on both forums. Any questions can be sent to me by email please, at this address. We believe we will be able to offer at least as good a deal for our next meeting at Oulton Park in Cheshire on the 17th of May and we are aiming to confirm this in the next few days and add it to the offer online at present.

I think Paul and Hollie are going up - not sure when?

Stu was showing some interest as well?

Eddie with the 260 from Bristol is also going up - not sure when!

It should be a great day - a drive round the circuit anyone????

Donington Celebration & Special Offer

Did you know that the club's Donington Park race meeting on Easter Monday, March 24th, is taking place 75 years after the very first race meeting at the circuit? Best of all, as MG Magazine Volume 1, Number 1 reported "the meeting was an immense success and MGs won four out of the six races". The winner of the main race that day was Yorkshireman Eddie Hall driving his blown 750cc Montlhery Midget.
Times change but you can look forward to more MG successes 75 years on with all our main club championships firing up their 2008 season and support races from the Porsche Club and Porsche Open championships, plus Morgans. To celebrate the occasion, we're offering a special price on admission for club members of just £12 for admission and a programme (normally £15 on the gate) with extra tickets just £10 (£12 on the gate) if ordered in advance from the club. Advance applications must close on the 13th of March in order to get your tickets out to you on time, so order online now.
Members will have access to a dedicated MGCC parking area and have the opportunity to visit the paddock to see the cars up close, as well as having exclusive access to the presentation following each race in the driver's Welcome Centre in the paddock.

Hi Colin,

The pics through your windscreen were taken with a 17.5-45mm zoom and the ones of the cars racing were taken with a 40-150mm zoom (on 150mm) with an Olympus e500 DSLR. I think this has now been replaced by the e510. If you keep your eyes open you can pick up a kit with the 2 zooms from the likes of Currys for quite a reasonable price. There's always eBay for a used e500! If you want a closer look let me know and I'll bring the camera on the 17th.

thanks Nigel,

I'm thinking of going down the DSLR route.

But I want something that matches my 18x optical zoom that I currently have (480mm?)

I'm impressed by the pictures and your zoom - so asked the question!

ps all seems bit of a minefield!!

You can never compare 18x with a proper zoom lense.

If you're not looking to spend mega money you can't go far wrong with a Nikon D40 (or D40X or the new D60) with a couple of lenses.

Obviously if you have more money to burn there are a whole catalogue of options to confuse you ;)
