One of the nicest places in Yorkshire

Post by ontor » Fri Mar 02, 2012 8:39 am

AND THEREFORE THE WORLD
Im lucky to live very near to this place. Its Follifoot near Harrogate. This is the Harewood Arms Follifoot

Went for a quick drive yesterday afternoon topless of course. :D Notice the new handles and air intakes :)

The kiddies TV show from the 70's took its name from here and I walk with the dogs every day past the "lightning tree" which featured in the song for the program.

OUT of Lancashire !

I have lunched there, and it passed the 'steak and kidney pie test' - my benchmark for pub lunches.
I wonder if they still serve it ?

Harrogate is the gateway to some of England's most beautiful country, and some fantastic driving.
One of my favourite drives - Harrogate to Tan Hill and back in a big circle. Look at the maps and work it out.
FANTASTIC !. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Sadly, this is a Smiths pub and they now all serve "Ping Pie". Both this and the Radcliffe Arms over the road used to be well known for good grub but measures put in place by the brewery now dictate what is served in their pubs.

I do the route you are speaking of a few times a year on the bike.

Helluva drive, isn't it. On a warm summer's day or a bright crisp winter's day. Beautiful. 8-)

It certainly is, I run the great dalesman rally for the BM riders club and we will be taking in Tan Hill this May when we stop at Dent for the weekend.

slightly off topic but on the subject of Tan Hill, What I want to know is, why did Ted Moult lie to us all in the 70's? he used to say that you only fit double glazing once so fit the best Everest.........and so on. He then popped up at Tan Hill advertising this fact on telly. So why then did they rip them out and fit now ones a few years ago???

Well Ted Moult karked it long before those windows were replaced, so he
can't be held responsible for those lying bar stewards at Everest, now can he ? 8-)

Visas aren't sufficient anymore, Neil, you have to answer a load of questions about
Yorkshire Cricket, and give a dna sample for typing before they let you in now.
I should lose the Eccles Cakes too - they're contraband.

As long as you don't have any Foreign dna, you'll be ok.

They lasted a life time.........

My aunt owns a farm house 10 miles down the road from Tan Hill, just outside Reeth, I've stayed there many times but it isn't practicle in the F as you drive 3/4 of a mile across the fields. Another aunt used to live in York, I love both York and the Dales.
