Hi Kjeld, it was great to see you last week with Jette and Alan etc.

I had heard it was Denmark in 2014, but knew no more. I saw information at EEOTY Sweden and found the above (but Danish only) on the web.

I hope o be there Kjeld :thumbsu:

Thankyou Dave and Adrian for the update : -

"Dear MG Friends across Europe.

(In case I have sent this e-mail to the wrong contact person please forward it to the right one within our local MG Car Club.)

Enclosed please find the official invitation for the European Event 2014 in Denmark. Please feel free to use the whole or part of it in your local MG magazine and/or on your MG website.

If you do have free space in one of the upcoming issues of your magazine I will be very pleased if you could fit in the following text:

With the 2013 European Event in Scotland sold out as per end of October 2012 we hereby invite all MG owners across Europe and oversea centres to join us for the 2014 European Event of the Year in Denmark.

In honour of our 60th Anniversary, the MG Car Club Danish Centre invites you to the European Event 2014 taking place from the 21st to the 24th of August 2014.

The event takes place on the island of Funen (Fyn) centrally situated in Denmark. The Event is centered at Hotel Nyborg Strand which is situated at The Great Belt with panoramic views over the sea.
Distances to Nyborg:
From Malmö, Sweden, 160 km (100 miles)
From Esbjerg (ferry from Harwich, UK), 170 km (106 miles)
From Hamburg (Altona train station), 335 km (208 miles)
Max capacity is 200 cars.

We aim to keep prices as low as possible, hoping for approx. DKK 7,500 (EUR 1,000) per car with two people for the 3 nights in a double room, entrance fees, all meals and most drinks included. Final prices for the event and registration form will be available at www.mgklub.dk from December 1st 2013, from which date registration opens.

You can download the official invitation and preliminary program (in English) at www.mgklub.dk. Go to the section “2014 – 60 års jubilæum”.

Looking forward to see you all the coming summer in Scotland and again in Denmark 2014.

Regards MG Car Club Danish Centre
Rikke U. Nissen"

Add £800 to get there and back if you use the summer sailing from Harwich - Esbjerg or two/three days there and back by road and you have another really expensive event. Only 200 cars too, can't make the sense in that, the EEOTY seems to be an elitist event now.

Set Outlook to remind me to Register. Must at sometime sort a 10day/two week Itinerary to justify the slap up Dinner on the Ferry.
I would agree that it would be expensive for a whistle stop 3 night weekend which is why many make an EOTY a stop off during a longer tour.
Maybe we could obtain extended nights in the Hotel at a discount as we did in Geiranger and have arranged for Aviemore.

Once again, so expensive.

Our two week tour of Norway will cost less than that. Initially we were to do the tour and finish at the EEOTY (assuming we were accepted of course). Not now, we'll stay an extra few days in Norway and then come home.

cheaper than Scotland from memory though Adrian, and Scandinavia prices are always higher than Uk I think, so overall I thought that they did quite well pricewise (assuming the accomadation price is per room and not per person that is!)

Then Scotland must have been very expensive !

£1000 I recall Adrian

This appears to ms to be £635 for 2 on the event and £281 for accomadation so just over £900 (916)

Yep, that's what I made it too, add the ferry, fuel etc and you're close to £2,000 for a three day event :o .

If you are traveling the distance and paying the travel costs it's a great idea to stay longer, just like I did for EEOTY Sweden from where I toured around up to Gerainger Fjord in Norway (what a great area) before back down the coast to Cophagen via a couple of days at Falkenberg on the beach before heading back to the UK. That's a round tour I would love to do again sometime 8-)

We thought we may go to Norway & then see the parts of Denmark we want to see on the way back, doing both would be to expensive?
If you plan the tour round the EEOTY in Denmark & don't get accepted it throws all the planning out??

When is the event booking confirmation? Not sure how long you would have to wait off the top of my head Neil 8-)

One of my concerns exactly Neil. For months now Colin and I have been working with Steinar on a pre-EEOTY tour of Norway, it is being geared up to finish at the EEOTY but the predicted and expected cost have told us NO along with the uncertainty of not being accepted so there's a version two being implemented for all visitors that takes us to the best parts of southern Norway and back to Kristiansand for the ferry back to Esbjerg. He has negotiated excellent rates with both DFDS and Color-Line ferries and accommodation is typical Norwegian style (log cabins and a few surprises) with self cooked food BBQ style in the evening to reduce costs as even Norwegians agree it's expensive there.

Until he has finished the planning and established costs no details have been passed on, we still have some translation and a few other things to finalise but it will be announced soon.

This is a terrific opportunity to visit this country of amazing scenery so look out for details.

We shared a "hut" for 1 night with Keith on the 2009 trip & it was best described as sparse but it didn't bother us & it was in a lovely location.
The problem with "luck of the draw" registrations for events means that if maybe 5 couples plan on doing a tour & 1 couple miss out on getting through the registration process its a bit of a spoiler, we drove up through Denmark & back in 2009 & didn't really see much of the country so would like to stop off for a couple of days this time & see some places.

From the event website

"Each country is allocated a number of places based on the number of members, for example 10 places. The first 10 entries received from this country are guaranteed participation. Subsequent entries are on a waiting list until January 1st. Places available after January 1st will be given to the applicants on the waiting list. After this registration is given free. Applicants on the waiting list will be informed on January 1st.
Registration closes March 31st or when all 250 places are allocated.
Once your registration is received, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from the organizer indicating whether you are on the waiting list or are enrolled. If
your application is accepted you will receive an e-mail with payment information. Final registration is accepted when payment is received."

So a group couldn't really plan much before January :(
