Email received thanks Mykel :D
Now if someone could tell me (politely) what to do with that GPX file in simple terms I would be more than grateful I have a Garmin 765T.
I'll google how to do it in the meantime.

Google reckons that the GPX file needs downloading onto a SD card then putting into the 765s card slot then I'll be able to read it, so is it that easy??

When I tried to do this for MGFIM, my 255Wnuvi doesn't want to know (in fact neither does my new TomTom Start 60).

Mykel do you know if this is still the case as I can pop in a fresh SD card with your data on it ?.

Is there a road book for the Sunday run or is the satnav the only way to follow the route?
I've downloaded basecamp as you advised Mykel but its a bit complicated for my IT skills :D

Hm, I have no idea if the SC card option works, as I always use BaseCamp to both plan tours and send them to the device.

If you have BC installed, it’s as simple as that:
- connect the sat-nav to your PC or Mac using the USB cable
- wait for the device to go into connected mode (there’s a PC image on the screen of my Nüvi 2465 then)
- start BaseCamp and it should show your sat-nav under the devices list.
- select “File -> Import” from the main menu
- select the file I sent you, you should then see a new trip named “Hotel Ter Kelling - Heusden” in the “recently imported” list
- right-click on that trip’s name in the list and from the drop-down menu select “send to device”, click okay and you’re done.
Quit BC and disconnect the sat-nav, which will then go to sleep.

All works fine with my Nuvi 1490 Michael - using 2014.10

After transferring to device, restart Garmin, select 'import routes'. To navigate select 'where to', select 'routes', select the route you want, select 'show on map'. If you have old maps then probably best to select 'recalculate' before 'show on map'.

I'll try my Garmin again but according to the TomTom forum the latest devices (mine is) do not support any map programming.

I believe the Garmin 255W has been around since about 2009 and may well not support downloadable routes. Maybe worth having a look at ITNConv (free) and/or EasyGPS. I have just found this link https://forums.garmin.com/archive/index ... 14945.html - may be time to modernise.

Spot on John, I bought it in 2009 at a Media Markt in Germany on the way to Sweden as my previous TomTom died on the way. I have the latest 2014 map and I'm updating it at the moment but it's only a stand by as I use the TomTom mostly. It's also useful to keep as I can use it as a rally trip meter and run it in km's and stages. I've downloaded Basecamp so let's see what happens next.

I bought the 765T in 2009 ready for Norway & I've created a few custom routes in it but never imported any, one feature I do like is that there is a 3.5mm jack plug on it & you can connect it to the head unit in the TF & the instructions come through the car speakers ideal for the top down on noisy motorways scenario I've looked at new ones & they don't have this function so I'll stick with the 765 'till it packs up I think?
It probably does a lot more but I've not been very adventurous with it tho.

Well, good to read that it works for most of you. Still the sat-nav is just a backup, in case we get badly split up on the way. As it seems, we will be 22 cars en route to Heusden, so even more than last year. Driving with a line that long through the eye of the needle which is Nijmegen at the moment with lots of traffic lights and some major road works may be a bit problematic. But there's just tat one bridge .... Once we reach the outskirts, things will ease up a lot, and then there's always CB radio for most of us.

Well, Basecamp appears to have worked, everything happened as expected, however when I follow the next step, John's text, nothing happens as when "where to" is selected nothing like routes can be found. Any ideas ?

Not that I know much about it if your satnav doesn't have the custom routes facility then maybe you can't import routes?

On my Garmin, to find the routes I have to select "Apps" from the main menu, then "Trip Planner" on the next screen. Up comes a list of all the routes I have "sent to device" from BaseCamp.
