Local help in Romania

Kindly posted in general board by Frank
Frank in Sweden wrote:I used to drive a TR3A quite a lot on the continent. The TR club provided a list of local volunteers who would give a hand to a stranded TR car. They also listed suitable workshops, spares suppliers. Outside Frankfurt, many years ago, the TR Lucas dizzy gave up. I called a German TR owner close by, who actually towed me to his private garage with his TR4 IRS. We found an 2nd hand Lucas dizzy ( not so common in Germany, believe me...) and mounted it. He had a tool for setting the correct ignition timing, and after 5 hours I was back, hitting the road. Actually, he refused to accept any payment at all. He just said: I just hope you will give me a hand if I break down close to you!
Maybe, the MGF register would consider to do something similar for MGF cars, especially outside the UK.
I would definitely volunteer to be a "local hand" in Romania.
Where a outs are you Frank? Seriously looking at driving to and exploring Romania next year :thumbsu:

Seems I am not alone :D

Ce faci?

I have been thinking of doing the transfagarasan for some time. Helps that I have some Romanian friends (one is staying with me at the moment!) I may look at it for next year. I think a ZTT full of spares might be an idea!

Hi Colin
I am in Bucharest. Let me know if you plan something. The roads are not the best. Main roads ok. Transit road through Hungaria is perfect, as is Austria. From Bucharest you are down at the Black Sea in 2 hours 20 mins. I do the trip often during the hot season. Excellent road, actually.
The traffic discipline is somewhat challenging here, but it is a very beautiful country, and people are generally friendly. It is also an extremely poor country, so one must look after the car somewhat more than in UK or Sweden.
There are also trains that carry both car and sleeping coaches for part of the route. When driving to/from Sweden, I usually take such train between Vienna and Hamburg, during night time. It saves you many mIles, and time. Hamburg is maybe little off for you, but check other train routings. (www.db.de). If time is no limitation, you may want to drive all the way...
A small spares package is recommended....
Cheers!

Hi Frank
Great to hear that
I remember reading about a young lady who took her F and her mother Dow to Romania from the UK and they had a great trip (it was in a MG Owners Club magazine last year sometime)
Steffi and I were talking to someone from Romania a few weeks ago, he told us that the hotel pool was closed for repair, and the next thing you know 2 hours has passed as we discover he was from Romania and after we asked about driving there and where to stay and where to see, he showed us many great webpages
We look forward to going there
Ideally a long trip taking in Prague, Tatra mountains, Budapest, Croatia, Slovenia and the Grossglockner Pass in Austria there / back (retracing my route from a few years ago, but in a TF instead of the V8 that i took back then :D

Can't wait :thumbsu:

I'm very much up for this! Also I can possibly bring along a Romanian to act as a translator and guide! Dana speaks slightly better Romanian than my pigeon Romanian!
TF160 - Bilstiens, Mike Satur 4-2-1, Sports Cat, Quad Daytona, Z and F Tuning Phase 2 Remap showing 177Bhp @ Janspeed RR day and a Big Grin :D (oh and a glass rear screen and bits of shiny stuff) 85th suspension bits to fit!
