Post by colintf » Tue Feb 03, 2015 7:49 pm

Dates no real suprise by official announced this evening

Extract from an email they sent me

"
Le Mans Classic, 8th edition, will be held on 8, 9 and 10 July 2016. This is the announcement made Tuesday on the occasion of a conference held for Retromobile in Paris.

Le Mans Classic gives now-and-already go to all classic car enthusiasts on 8, 9 and 10 July 2016 on the Grand Circuit 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Created in 2002 by Peter Auto in association with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, Le Mans Classic offers a great retrospective of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours. Praised in its first edition, the event has continued to establish its reputation over the editions to establish itself as a must-expected every two years by the public and participants.

Last July, more than 110 000 spectators had found their way in Sarthe to admire nearly 500 race cars on the track and 8000 vintage cars in general enclosure specially designed to accommodate 180 clubs representing 80 brands! At the center of this great automotive festival village entertainment and exhibition visitors immersed in the magic of the story.

In 2016, many new features are planned. They will be announced in the current of the next 17 months... "

I surely will be there (again). It will be my 5th edition.

Although it is getting bigger and less cheaper by every edition, it still remains a fantastic event.

Hi Luc, great to hear from you.
I am a long termed as well, been to all but the first one in 2002 (6 so far)
I just wish it was easier to park up with mg club de France. I was promised a pass to get the car in to join them last year but nothing materialised. It worked for 2012 though.

It's such a vast place, but who knows, may see you there :thumbsu:

I did the normal 24hr in 2002, after doing the Classic in 2004, the normal 24 lost all appeal for me. 8-)

heres some great Historic MG News : -

http://www.mgcc.co.uk/fak57-accepted-in ... ssic-2016/

"The 1947 MG TC George Phillips Le Mans Special of Simon Evans has been accepted to race in the 2016 Classic Le Mans in July" (first seen at MG Live last June, and pictured here racing at Goodwood Revival 2015)

"This will be the first time the TC will race in the Le Mans Classic, having competed in events such as Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classic and MG Live! 2015.

Simon, who is delighted to be going to France in July, said: “Competing at both the Goodwood Revival and Le Mans Classic was always a dream, but one that has been a long time in the making, as it was not a question of purchasing a potentially eligible car. The journey of working with Phil Cornut and others to acquire a donor car, and then research the original to ensure we got the rebuild historically accurate and conforming to HTP standards was an exciting and educational part of the project.

“Acquiring a race license and learning how to get this particular car around a circuit was just as challenging for a complete novice. Along the way we have met some fascinating, helpful and knowledgeable people; including many in the MG Car Club who have been very supportive.

“Perhaps the most gratifying aspect of the whole effort has been the realisation that even in today’s environment with values of cars rocketing beyond the reach of most, it is still possible to indulge in recreating motorsport history, and gain a grid position alongside legendary cars on a limited budget.”

From all of us at the Car Club, we wish Simon the very best for the Le Mans Classic, and will look forward to the report and photos that will inevitably follow."

Wow what a scourcher 8-) arrived home today

We had MGs competing in 4 out of the 6 grids which was great representation (normally we only have prewar, MGA and MGB, so only 3 out of the 6)
